today i noticed the magazine spring had broken and am wondering if it is possible to find just a replacement spring or do i have to find a new mag.
thanks for any advice folks.

I'll bet magazines are expensive. If I remember correctly it is a single stack mag. Perhaps a M16 mag is narrow enough to work ( probably have to cut down ) top would would have to be reformed to fit bottom of follower. It's a thought, cheap try.

If you try to find parts from a dealer, I think you will not be successful... you can buy replacement mags no problem... A better solution is to get one from another owner who has a junk clip that he would donate the spring to you....or possibly you could work out a trade for something else...the clips are the weak link in the 788 and there should be discards around.

I had the same thing happen. I found that the spring from a Sav 340 magazine worked just fine.
