I'd like to know if anyone has used a 224 boolite in a AR-15 for hunting and how well did it work? I'm looking to do some Prairie dog hunting when it warms up and would like to know if its worth casting or not? Thanks

I use Lyman 225415's and 225462 HP's in my .223 Rem bolt gun all the time. They are great.

I don't remember the mold number but it dropped a 55 grain gas check bullet. It worked great in my 14" Contender and 24" Rem 700 at modest velocity. Killed ground hogs at about 100-150 yards with ease.

I shot nothing but cast from both my 223 and a lot from my 22/250.

I could NEVER get the accuracy from MY 22-250 that I got from my .223's. 2 to 3 inch patterns against one inch clusters! The .223 REm 700 was the best of the 3 I tried, The 14" Contender was always good for less than 1 1/2" off bags at 100 yards. MORE than a few loads were tried. Scopes of 2x7 (TC), 6x24(.223) and 6x20(22-250) were used

The NOE 225-55 rcbs bullet is very deadly on small game (squirrels) at .22 LR velocities (3.5 gr. Bullseye). This is in .223 rifles. I can imagine it would be fine for game up through coyotes at higher velocities. It has excellent terminal performance. Yes, I use it in an AR-15 for hunting.

The best .223 loads I used were over 2400 fps but under 2600 fps. The 22-250 would lead at 2300 and was a bear to clean. Both are Rem 700's. I tried the loads in the Contender with some success, but then tried those loads WITH OUT gas checks. I will NEVER try that again!

I have used a flat nose in a 10" Hornet barrel with a reduced load for my squirrel getter. As quite as a 22 or even more so, 1 hole groups at 50yrds to clean out a entire trees worth before they know what happened. Great for not much meat destruction.

No ARs live here but many of Gods little creatures have been laid low from my little boolits.
Come to think of it some darn big creatures have been laid low with my little boolits.
Maybe the biggest was a Yak tagged just below the ear hole with an NEI #2 at 48gn fired from a 22 Hornet.
That NOE copy of the RCBS design is a most pleasingly accurate boolit even in slower 1/14" twist barrels.
