If you slug your barrel, you will probably find your groove diameter is bigger than .329", and your throat is bigger still. There have been a number of group buys of bullets for this caliber.

This link provides excellent data: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?13425-Cast-Bullet-Loads-for-Military-Rifles-Article

Yes their is really no better way than to slug your barrel in order to find out just what you need for your rifle. I also would suggest that you post on the want to buy portion of this site for your mould and brass needs. I seem to remember something a while back on the 8x56R, but that may have been you wanting to buy LOL. At any rate you seem to realize that you need to feed your rifle a boolit it likes in order to do good with it. In my experience those molds don't come up for sale very often, so the suggestion to get in on a group buy might be the best and quickest way to come up with the mould you need. Good Luck. Sounds like you might have a nice rifle.

There has been a group buy going for the Oldfeller Frankenstein boolit that is specifically for the Steyr. I have no idea where it is now, available or closed. I assume you also know that you need a clip or two? That is a Mannlicher system and should not be single loaded without a clip. Extractors are unobtanium.

Do you have the M95 carbine?
I have 5 of them and they all like the oldfeller frankenstein boolit at .338
There was or maybe still is a group buy for a NOE mold thar is the old Feller.

You need clips and The last ones I bought I got from Old Western Scrounger.
They sometimes list them on their website but if you e-mail them they seem to have them. They are kinda pricy now.

Like Wayne said do not single load them as extractors are no longer in existance.

They are great rifles out to 200 yards for me and at 100 will almost knock the steel plate target down.

Aim Surplus had Privi for 20.00, Wideners has it at FMJ 24.50, SP 25.00, brass/boxer. Little steep, but where else is it? The 1938 corrosive I have for mine "test" my capped teeth every squeeze. Gtek

Privi ammo/brass and Graf bullets. And the Lee mold - although I have not cast/shot it...

I am running the 8x56r buy. To some degree I've given up, because miha won't comunicate or even give me a ETA. I do have 8x56r cast bullets at .3315 if you are interested. They work very well in my rifle and carbine.

I sent him a question on the use of one of his mold's about 3 week's ago and still no reply.
I still haven't used it and wonder about the quality and the little (detail's) on how to get the HB boolit's out of the cavity's.
I might just sell it and get an NOE, quality I know and trust.

I have about 100 rounds of 1930s ammo for my carbine. Plenty of clips. just waiting for a nice day to take it out and blast some. I too will be looking around on here for mold buys, and maybe score a die set.

Please, please clean it properly afterwards. Your ammo will be corrosive. I have seen many nice rifles with sewer pipe bores.

I shot the deer broadside , it took out both lungs before passing through. The deer ran about 60 yds before laying down. I just purchased a crono and if it ever gets back above 0, will let you know the vol.

I was reading an article in an old magazine about these rifles and the author wrote that these guns actually have more of a forcing cone rather than a leade. Makes sense as seems the all have large "throats". I had one about 10 years ago and fired some of the Nazi marked ammo in it over the hood of my truck. Lifted me up off the hood with no problem! LOL. Think it recoiled worse than my 7mm Rem Mag.
I sold it to buy something else.

With 100 rounds and a carbine you had better plan on more than 1 day to shoot all of them or take some buddies along. 100 rounds = sore shoulder.

Most 8x56R milsurp brass is very good and worth saving. Converting to Boxer priming is easily done; http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?143958-Converting-Berdan-primer-pockets-to-Boxer

Larry, I'm in the process of getting set up to convert all my 7.5 Swiss brass using your method. I hope it works out as well for me, as it has for others.

Use sharp drills and just go slow, speed will pick up with practice. Also don't get frustrated if you bugger up a few cases in the beginning.....it's just part of the learning curve.

Larry;
Yes the Military Brass is good. I bought 5000 Berdan primers before I found out you can convert them. Got 100 empty cases in Eureka CA at a good price and then bought 2 cardboard boxes total 6 clips of 1938 Nazi brass to try and for the clips, shot 10 rounds and developed a flinch and sore shoulder. Might get one of my dumb sons to shoot a few. for the brass. Converted about 150 7.62 X54R that work good.

100 boolit's cast and double tumble lubed so I might just load some up this weekend and go for a ride.

I think you can make cases from 444Marlin brass. Check dimemsions in a loading manual.

I shot my m95 today from the bench ( ok hood of work truck , I need a snowmobile to get to my bench ) happy to report it shoots right to the sights with factory privi ammo . Fortunately only took me 6 rounds to figure that out .... There is a reason most here shoot cast out of these:shock:

Hurt's donut?

Yup leaned into it over the hood of the truck isn't the recommended position .
The M95 is a bit stout on that end , it was even a bit much for the better half and she loves the 12 gauge coach gun , my .444 marlin gives her the giggles but one clip from the M95 was enough for her .:redneck:
