Today I picked up 1000 rounds of mixed factory (no reloads) 357, 700 rounds of 38 special..again, all factory and 3 boxes of 9mm (one box black talon)....this is old ammo...been stored in a mans house on a shelf...never wet...just really old....cost me an average of under 10 cents a round..no corrosion or discoloration and no wet boxes...would you just shoot it or break it down and either mexican match it or just use the components...I shoot a Ruger GP100 so plenty strong....just unsure of really old ammo. (guessing much is from the 50's and 60's...Remington, Winchester, some Browning, and several brands I never heard of (not much of that and not reloads).

If your sure its not reloads shoot it. Start with a few rounds and see how it goes, chances are it will be as good as new stuff.

From your pictures of the boxes it's not that old. If it looks good and no corrosion I would keep it intact and shoot it as you see fit. It would surprise me if it wasn't as good or maybe even better than new stuff.

Shoot it up. And those boxes are not that old probably horded when Clinton was in office...

I'd sit on it. Why? Because if it's already got some age on it and isn't made anymore, it may accrue some collector value, and if the next few years sees ammo get really stupid, the value of certain ammo may just take a hike.. At least do some checking, the Kleanbore may already have value. Some of the other stuff looks quite modern, maybe shoot that but I'd hold off on shooting the older stuff and do some checking around.. Just my 2¢ worth..

Looks good to me, too. Doubt any is over 30 yrs old, most newer. Modern ammo, stored correctly, will outlast most of us. Shoot & enjoy!

except for the box of Remington "kleenbore", the rest of that is from the 80's or 90's. It's not as old as you think.

I would shoot it.

The box of black talon would go for stupid money at a gun show, or on gunbroker.

Heck all of that stash is younger than me. I still work and so will your stash.

Still have some stuff from BEFORE WW2 and it will still go BANG

Shoot it and enjoy.:)

Sell the back talon, and pay off your mortgage! Well, its not THAT valuable...

Like DougGuy said. If you have the space and containers to store it. But on the other hand if you are worried about it being 'old', no way is it dangerous. I have some 'old' .43 mauser made around 1910-1911 and it still shoots. And sorry, no I do not have any $5.00 per round for sale.

Break down what doesn't shoot.

Sell some of it for stupid money

and make your money back - then shoot the "Free" ammo or stock pile it.
Why let the gougers/hoarders have all the fun.

The Rem KleenBore is the only thing even approaching 'old'. You now have a 'strategic reserve' of .38/.357 that you got for a bargain. Auction the Talon and KleenBore and sit on the rest. If you can't stand being ammo-rich, sell it to your police buddies - unless they're restricted to issue ammo only, they need factory ammo for duty (not supposed to carry handloads - it's a liability thang)...

The one older box of Hydroshok, the Browning, and some of the Federal 38 spl stuff may be a little collectable. The Black Talon is desirable as well. The rest, shoot it.

I don't know why, you can still get it. It's called Ranger T. Winchesters Ranger SXT is the LEO only version.

To the OP, keep the better stuff for carry ammo and shoot the rest of it.

I would shoot it if it is factory. Pulling them down is a pain in the a**

I've got a lot of stuff older than that, and a lot "nastier" looking. It goes downrange very nicely. Stored indoors, not exposed to excessive heat/cold, it's good. I've got some reloads from an old friend(deceased), he and I were of the same mind in reloading, that were outside in an open garage. I'm not afraid of them. As said, go downrange very nicely.

Those boxes look like they've been opened and closed several times.
I'd be suspicious that at least some of it is reloads.

I looked it over really well and don't find any of the normal 'scratches", bumps, humps or anything that would indicate a reloading situation...I reaload a lot and can usually tell what's been resized and what has been loaded....none of this stuff has any indication of that and the man that had it said he'd had it on the shelves for years and years...it had been moved a number of times...and that he didn't reload at all. There were boxes and boxes of 12ga 3" magnums and also many boxes of .45 ACP that a buddy of mine picked up at the same time...the .45 cost him under a dime a round ...boxes looked pretty much the same as mine and the cartridges had no marks on them whatsoever...I've got a really sensitive scale and will do a little weighing to see how close things are...any questions and they come apart.

Keep the Kleenbore for a collection of old boxes, sell the Talon on Gunbroker at auction for stupid money and shoot up the rest.
