A friend of mine is clearing out some stuff his father left when he passed away and when he overheard me asking about lead from another friend he offered me some he had laying around the garage. Ended up with about 25 lbs of some pretty soft lead :mrgreen:

Also in the pile was a small box of 100 or so .45 cal bullets. They have been lightly sized to .452 -ish and look like they were lubed with a alox/beeswax mix. They weigh in about 253gr. they are approx .75 long and wear a GC. I haven't yet found them cataloged anywhere but???

Bullet with dark lube is a Lee 452-228-1R

Does anyone recognize then and is so are they suitable for .45ACP? I've loaded a couple of dummy rounds and maybe... He also asked me if I would be interested in his dads old moulds since he has no interest in casting and said he'd pick them up for me in a week or so.:mrgreen:

A little heavy for 45acp but will work if loaded lightly,better in 45 long Colt

LarryM;
IMHO; the weight is great for the ACP. Makes fine duplicates of old hardball loads. In fact, a good cast at 230 -255 grains can go over 950 fps with careful loading. Search for John Taffin's recent article in American Handgunner. Using Unique powder he loaded a 250 to above 950 fps in a Springfield XP. Using the same powder I have reached 900+ in several 1911s.

Larry,
That is the #452484.
The only one I can find on my shelf is a single cavity HP version. (cherry #94)
Several have said a gascheck on the 452374 is a bit redundant, but with the HP it probably qualifies as an experimenter`s dream. I have not worked with it much, so YMMV.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I will try a batch in the Kimber. I'm thinking a starting load of 5 grs Unique and seated to cycle through the pistol. I'll let you know how it works out. I pretty sure I'll get the mold that made thes and if I do I'll post that also.

Wow, took longer to score the mold for this than I thought it would but I brought it home tonight with a few other odds and ends. STP nailed it. It is indeed a 2 cavity 452484 also came with most of a box of hornady gas checks.
I had about 150 of the bullets already cast from the guy the mould came from and loaded them over 5 gr of unique. seated to 1.65", worked like a champ in my Kimber Custom II. One of these days I'll get a chrono.

I also scored a 429244 mould. Now I gotta get a .44 of some kind to go with the mould.;)
