I do a lot of reading here on the forum and don't remember seeing info on a cast boolit or lube that would work in the AR-10. I know some of you have more experience in cast for semi-auto's. I do cast for 30-30 and for .308 bolt actions. I am concerned with plugging the gas tube. Thanks all.

Started shooting cast in my DPMS LR-308 last year. Found I had to resize bore riding nose to under .300 to keep it running. Made a sizing die with a .297 diameter drill in a piece of 7/8-11 thd. rod. Favorite load: 30 gr. Accurate 2495 155 gr. NEI 155-311GC cast of WW. Somewhere in the 1900 fps range. Shoots 2 moa which is good enough for 3-Gun with really big targets fairly close.

BAC works fine in my M15 with MP227-65 cast boolits. Gas pressure at the port is around 19200 psi, no wax I know of is going to hold that!

If you want to skip the boolit lube and ES powder coat, this has worked well for me.
Added benefit, you can get away using softer PB when powder coated.:drinks:

Not to hi-jack, but what boolet are you guys getting to feed reliably in A-10's? I got in on the Group-Buy for the Mi-Hec Hunting Boolet, because it was recommended for semi-autos. Casts a nice boolet(solid version), but I can't get it to feed in my Armalite. The nose hangs up on the locking lug cuts.

CBrick gave me 9 different 30 cal boolet samples to try. Been making up dummy rounds and manually cycling the action, to determine what feeds. So far, only the pointy NOE 311365, shows promise. The Lyman 311672 and the Saeco #311 hang up, always on the second round in the magazine. Yes, I tried different magazines!

I received a donation of some commercially cast Leadhead Boolets. The were 138 grains and resembled Lyman's 311410 except they had a gas check. Feeding was 100% but they were light for caliber, and accuracy was only so-so. AA 5744, at 26 grains would cycle the action.

Seems, I'm gonna need a spitzer shaped boolet to feed reliably. Anything with a significant meplat balks. Wish I could find a mold that casts a 150-160 grain spitzer.

No longer in production, but occasionally available, is the 311329... I have shot these with reasonable accuracy from a bolt gun, but haven't spent much time working up "The Load"... I also have had good success with 311334. Not exactly a spitzer, but it probably won't get stuck in the lug cut. While the -334 is no longer produced, its' lighter/shorter cousin is still in production: 311332.... If you ever found one for sale, the 311414 fits the profile, but I've heard about accuracy problems with that boolit due to a low percentage contact with the barrel... Best compromise may be the 311413... not a "pretty" boolit in my opinion, but it has a spitzer point, high percentage area in contact with the barrel, close to the target weight desired by the previous post, and has a good reputation for accuracy. While not in production any longer, it is a common design and they are frequently available in the used-mold market. I've seen 1 and 2 cavity molds; don't know if they were made in 4-cavity...

Winelover - try the PC, it works. 2400+ fps, no leading, no fouled G.P. I use the 31-165A in LR308 and it doesn't hang on me, but I have metal mags and had to bend the lips to keep the nose from jamming on the ramp, not the lugs. Don't know if it's PMag problem or dim. of the gun but they don't work for cast for me. The LR308 has M4 ramps.
UpNorthWis - the 31-165C is for powder coating and has a slightly smaller nose 0.297 to feed better. How do you shoot 308 in 3 gun and keep on target?

How do I keep on target? Sign up in Heavy Metal category where everyone has to shoot a minimum of .308 Pistol is min. .44 cal. and shotgun has to be 12 ga. pump. Am not shooting against mouse guns. Also, I have a 31-185S on order for my K-31 with a .296 nose. Will eliminate that third sizing operation.

I guess you are young and stout to do that. Takes me ~ 3 sec to get back on target with the 308 carbine. 5 rnds of 12 slugs is about all I can take.
