first, i shoot on my grandpa's land he has 17 acres on the river. i am screwed until spring, we had a flood a month ago, and it put about 2inches of slim mud on everything. normal is 5 to 6 feet, we got up to 23 feet and flood stage s something like 14 feet. it did not get into our camper tailors, but they are on blocks 4 feet high. (we jack everything up trucks and campers). after it flooded it froze. we are kinda lucky because the river did not leave a ton of **** in the yard. so i guess i will have to go to the range all winter which i hate. i have been spoiled because we find what ever we can people leave out for the trash, and shoot it. i have 50 plastic bottles in my basement waiting to be filled with water this spring. i am beginning to think i have a problem, because my wife left to get gas and snacks and came back with a tv from the trash to shoot. (i love her!!!). we use this land just to camp on and it is perfect, we had some good times as kids there.

this is my shooting table
94078

the mount in the middle is a 5 foot tall sand pile with railroad ties holding it togeather
94079

and this is the same place as the table earlier this fall with my kids
94080

On the bright side, plant it this spring as a deer garden. Unless the mud is polluted, it's usually fertile.

Part of my propety borders on the Tech Bayou and during really heavy rains the water will come up close to 40 feet past the bank. But each time it does we get some of the fine Louisiana gumbo mud. I'll be that section of land has come up a good 6-8" since we bought it. And the best part is that Mr rich guy completely enclosed his property with a precast concrete wall. But they broke some of the panels so he puts up a chain link fence with a wood wall. Last laugh is on him. He gets all the **** that flows down river caught up in his fence. Me I don't get any. I would certainly be on the lookout for.cottonmouths when the water receeds. They make excellent target practice.

Sometimes a cloud will blow over the range here. I hear they have water in them, just a rumor though, no empirical data to substantiate that.

It's could have some nasty strainers, I wouldn't want to be caught in a hole with a car bouncing around in it. Running rivers at flood stage can be very dangerous!

Yeah, no kidding. Too thin to plow, too thick to drink...

Having spent over three decades of my life in Arizona I had to grin at about the 3:15 mark at the cars they used to rip-rap the bank. "Bet those idiots will never try to cross a running wash again."

Bone dry out here in northern Kalifornistan. Every day has been in the high 60's and we're heading for high 70's next week. We really need rain, but at least the shooting has been very comfortable out at the range.

Maybe some of you should consider planting rice.
