Just curious if anyone has experience with using Dacron fillers with Ball / Flake powders like H335 and or AA2520.

Yup, but not specifically with H335 or AA2520. I use dacron for CB loads with WW760 (H414) in the .30-40 Krag and .308 Win and with AA2700 in the .30-06. All loads seem to shoot a bit cleaner with the fill than without and, IMO, I get fewer 'uncalled' flyers.

Yep I use it with WC 846, improved accuracy and cut extreme velocity spreads way down in 8x57. I have used with 748, wc 844 and probably several other ball powder in various bottlenecked cartridges.

I generally have better luck with granular buffers, but Dacron can, in some instances, help ball powder.

Thanks guys.

Just didn't Know if the Dacron was dense enough to "hold back " ball powder.

Gear what were the "granular" fillers you referenced?

If you have a powder that leaves a lot of empty space in the case Dacron can help with getting more consistency, ball powder or not.

Yes, it is dense enough. Don't pack it in there, either, about a half-grain per CC is plenty dense, just enough that the natural spring of the fibers will support the powder column against the primer end during handling and recoil.

I only use granular fillers and buffers in instances where a slow-for-cartridge powder is called for and ignition inconsistencies begin to crop up, essentially dancing with the devil to pound a square peg in a round hole, but heavily-retarded, slow-burning powders are sometimes the hot ticket for cast. You don't say what you're loading, but for normal cast boolit velocities one can usually make filler/buffer a non-issue through powder selection.

Also, you can also use the very slow ball 50BMG powders (860,872,etc.) as filler for the H335s in small/medium cases when the 50BMG powders by themselves don't perform up to expectation. Maven, on our board, named this technique as using a "filler with attitude". ... felix

I use a 1/4" disk of backer foam from HD or Lowes for my galley loads in 45-70.
.
drop the powder, insert and push the disk down with a piece of dowel and seat and crimp the bullet.
.
Works fine for me and my twice cut-on shoulder

I was going to try it in my 30-06 loads where 24.5 grs of H335 and 29 Grs of AA 2520
are performing extremely well ( under 1 MOA @100 yds) using the 299,290,332,284 and 365.
I have also had great luck with 4064, but AA2520 is supposed to be even slower.
I just can't seem to get H4895 or IMR 4895 to behave.

I like the idea of fillers, but as I said was not sure of Ball type powders.

I have tried .75-1 gr of Dacron just pushed in far enough to be below the case neck and then seating the boolit.
