I have a Marlin 1894 in .44, and keep looking at this bullet, wondering how it'd feed and shoot in the gun. Looks like it'd feed really well, and the lighter wt. should mate well with that slow 1:38" twist. My gun has the "Ballard" rifling, so I expect it to shoot cast well, and this seems like a good bullet for anything I'd need or want to shoot in my area. Saves a little lead, too, from the heavier moulds. I'm thinking I'll likely shoot the 429215 HP Lyman with full loads for deer, and use a lighter bullet for most of my shooting where the quarry will be inanimate or much smaller than a deer.
Thanks for any info on this bullet in the Marlin.

Saeco makes 2, 200 gr 44cal bullet moulds the #944 200gr WC and the #420 200gr tc , I have both moulds , I use the WC most or the time for bowling pins . i also have the saeco#441 240 gr swc and the RCBS 240 gr gc SIL boolet but hardley use them.
The #420 200 gr tc is my go to boolet for loads between 800 and 1,200 fps in 44 mag with excellent accuracy, shot over the years from at least 10, 44 mags handguns as well as a winchester rifle. the bullet can be loaded to a higher velocity, but my normal plinking load @950 fps is 7.0 grs of BE or TG

loaded in 44 mag cases with std primers
5.5 gr of BE or TG @800 fps
7.0 gr of BE or TG @950 fps
13.0 gr of H-S6 @1200 fps

If you are intrested in trying some, before buying a mould ? send me a Private message!

I have the SAECO TC 200 grain mould and have used it for .44 Sp. quite a bit & perhaps .44 magnum. Though I haven't used any such bullets recently and have none cast up to measure, my mould cast slightly undersize with wheelweight alloy, at least for my revolvers. Driven fast enough, accuracy was decent. As always, depends on the dimensions in your particular gun.

Blackwater--I think there are better 200g nominal boolit designs for your Marlin 1894 than the Saeco 420. Two that come to mind are the Saeco 446-A and the Lee 200RNFP. My concern is that the truncated cone design of the Saeco 420 MAY not be safe in a tubular magazine. I once had a Saeco TC design of around 200g, but I'm not sure of the number now. However, I recall that it was too pointy to use in my Marlin. It was almost as pointy as a Lyman 429303! Perhaps the Saeco 420 has a wider meplat than the mould I had, I dunno.

Just a point of interest. According to the Midway catalog the SAECO #944 is a TC and the #420 is a WC. Of course the pictures could be mixed up. As for tubular magazines I really think you are ok.

I used the #420- 200 gr TC bullet in a winchester 94 44 mag rifle with no problems and excellent accuracy!

The meplat is 0.270 wide and a large pistol primer is approx 0.210 wide , so IMO there should be no problems in a tube magazine.

Looks like Bob is right! Perhaps the Saeco 200 I had was not a #420?
