Silly question I know; but I have been using Lyman 2 alloy for casting 5% tin, 5% antimony, 90% lead!

I can get another alloy with the same BHN for $1 less per lbs 2% tin, 6% antimony, 92% lead.

Do you think there will be much effect on the casting process and performance of this alloy?

probably not.

Lloyd is right.
Only strange alloys with maybe too much antimony or not enough tin, etc, can cause leading or react different to the rifling.
Some things like diving weights, keel weights are made from anything that melts and range pickups with a pile of jacketed can change things.

In my experience with the .44 mag and other cartridges and cast boolits, hardness is much more important than the actual composition of the alloy. I use a lot of scrap and scrounged alloys, and I've been able to achieve my accuracy, penetration and leading goals, most always, as long as I have at least 1% tin in the alloy. The hardness I try to achieve for most of my .44 mag handgun shooting is Saeco 7 (Bhn 11) with boolits in the 1000 to 1150fps arena.
