Hi guys

My lee hardness tester can't be right

Apparently my straight wheel weights air cooled are coming out at 20.5 bhn

My stick on soft lead weights are testing at 8.5bhn

I don't think air cooled wheel weights can get that hard, does this sound right to you, yes I'm holding the plunger flush with the top of the die

The Lee Precision tester is accurate as it gets, so I would troubleshoot your technique.

If you are following the Lee instructions to the Tee, then something is wrong.
If I were to ask a question Like this, I'd state "step by step" exactly what my process is so others could help you troubleshoot your process.
Good Luck,
Jon

Ok I file a flat spot in the bullet

I put the bullet in the v block and I raise the ram until the plunger is flush with the top of its hole

I'm inclined to think its correct because of the 8.5bhn stick on weight hardness

are you using a fixture to hold the microscope?

and are you holding it the plunger is flush with the top of its hole for the proscribed 30 seconds?

any chance maybe you melted some zinc wheel weights by mistake?

I've had some old WW test at 16 bhn. But never that hard.

The tool is quite accurate if done right. I would suspect something else like zinc in the alloy if the procedure for testing was done properly.

theres a very good chance there is zinc in the alloy but the bullets are coming out perfect

need I be concerned?
