does any one load cast bullets in the 357 herrett? if so what die do you use to flair the mouth and what die do you use to crimp it back? thanks

Lyman "M" die is what I use to flare for cast. Then just the regular seating die.

You can also use a standard .38/.357 flaring die to flare the case mouth.

Needle nose pliars (closed) will open the cases up as well. ... felix

I use the BruceB method of belling case mouths: the expander plug from a set of RCBS 30 Carbine dies. It will work for almost any case from 30 to 45 caliber.

How about loads? I have an old 10" contender.... I always wondered how a heavy boolit like the 358430 would perform in it. I used to shoot Hornady 200 gr RN with 680 powder.

You can shoot anything as heavy as you can handle... just watch for the rear sight shearing off from the recoil. The 357 Herrett can be loaded to brutal levels in the 10" Contender.

lee's universal case flaring die works well too and is about half of a lyman M die price wise.

I flare w/ the lee 'universal' type die. Then close it up when I seat w/ the Hornady "sliding sleeve" type seater. But, I never did have much luck w/ any boolit in my Herret. Just frustrated me. In Fact the only bbl that I own for the contender that is downright excellent w/ boolits is the 7tcu.. Which I understand is a pretty forgiving round anyway!! While My Herret seems superior w/ some projectiles... It is dismal w/ any that it don't like! Hopefully yours has more manners!!! MV

Yes, Yes, Yes! And it will totally ruin your shootin game....if you allow it.

Back in the early days of IHMSA, and NRA Sillywet, that particular round, along with it's brother the .30 Herrett, probably developed more flinches than all the other rounds of the game at the time combined.

It's kinda like old age...it ain't for sissies!

As far as the case flairing, the convenience, and cost, of short nose needle nose pliars is pretty hard to beat.
