I must be getting really old (actually I am!) because I keep forgetting things. I did several searches but couldn't find what I'm looking for.

A year or so ago I smelted down a batch of wheel weights, and had been casting from the ingots ever since. Well I'm at the point a need to smelt down several hundred more pounds into ingots, which brings me to the problem.

I never wrote down my smelting temperature. What temp should I be smelting at in order to melt the lead but not the zinc? Last time I remember any zinc I missed on sorting just floating to the top along with the clips, but I don't remember the temperature I used. Can you help an old fart remember? This time I'll engrave it on the pot!

Thanks....

Keep it below the melting point of zinc 787.2 degrees. I shoot for 700 degrees +/-

I also smelt right around 700 degrees. The zinc weights just float on top and can be removed easily.
