Im trying to find the heaviest .452 boolit mold I can that my puma w/1-30" twist can stabilize at subsonic speeds. From what Ive found on realguns.com's twist rate calculator, it can handle somewhere between 1-1.1" long, or somewhere in the 400-450gr w/ww. Ive been looking at the Lyman 1-Cavity Bullet Mold #451114 45 Caliber (451 Diameter) 450 Grain Volunteer, but dont know. Any suggestions?

The heaviest boolit I use in my Puma .454 Casull is the Lyman 452651, which weighs 335 grains in WW alloy. If the loaded round is a bit too long, it doesn't want to feed smoothly. Deep seating eats up powder capacity. Since you're looking for reduced velocity, that may not be a problem. Is this a .454 Casull?

yes, its a .454 so if its too long, ill just go to a 45LC case.

I would be willing to buy some heavy boolits off of someone to try out. I already have 395gr CPs, but am looking for a mold for that weight or heavier. If anyone has any boolits from such a mold, I would be willing to buy some to try out.

I'm having a ball with it! Not a tack driver, but shoots as well as I can with open sights....it's box stock. Never fails that somone at the range comes over to ask me about it, since it bucks and barks a lot.

What Bullshop said. Getcha a 45-70 500 gr job and size it down.

Try a Lyman 451114. 430gr of a 17/3.2/.5 alloy. Comes out right at .452.

do you think the1:30 twist would stabalize the 500gr .458? How long is it?

Do you have any boolits from that mold that I could purchase from you to try out?

I have a 450 g LEE boolit that is 1 3/16 long and the 500 is 1 7/16" long both have GC's they are no problem to size to .452 as I do that to use with a sabot in my 58 cal B.P.

The Lee .459" 405 grain Hollow base will size down to .452". I have down it for a 45 cal. muzzleloader going in steps from .457" to .454" to .452". Should be a real blast and kill any attacking mouse around.

Hmmm interesting thread. I just got my Ruger Redhawk back into action after having sight problems (lack of sights actually) and I was looking at some of the lighter bullet molds I and my dad had around. I sized a few down to .452 as the bore on the single action is .450 if I remember right. The only problem I see is lack of lube. :Fire:

I have a 400gr Paper patch mold I could try [smilie=1:

Try the Lyman 457122 330 gr. Gould hollowpoint. I size them to .454 first, and then down to .452. May be a little long in the nose though. Crimp in the top lube groove.
