I have an XD-45 that I shoot Lee TL-452-230-TC bullets in. Alloy is ACWW. Lube is non-cooked version of 45-45-10. I get some minor leading after a few magazines, but nothing serious. I just got my wife an XDS in .45 cal. With the same ammo, I'm getting some hefty leading after 10 rounds. It has never had anything but these bullets shot through it. Do you think it because it is new and still has some rough machine marks inside? Would 100 rounds of J-words break it in so it doesn't lead as easily?

I'd slug the barrels to check fit before I'd do anything else.

slug the THROATS if you don't get a tight seal in the throat you probably get some gas cutting

I have not slugged either throat. I did slug the barrel of the XD a while back. It was .450. I must admit, I just assumed the XDS would be the same, but I have not checked. I'll have to cast some soft slugs and do some more checking. Thanks.

Run some plated like Berry's. I would also soften up the alloy. You may not be getting boolit arbitration. My XD will shoot pure with out any leading and I lube with 45/45/10 with a little shot of alox after I cook it.

I slugged the throat area of the XDS. It measures .4525 to .4530. My bullets, which I am shooting unsized, are somewhat oval. They measure .452 in one direction and .454 90 degrees to that. Do you think I could be getting some gas cutting on the .452 side? I would think the material on the .454 side would fill in on the .452 side, kinda like it does when you size them, but may be not? I'm wonderingif they are not too hard. I have not measured the hardness, but the thought of making some from 50/50 COWW and SOWW or even just SOWW is sounding like a plan.

If you shoot a bullet that is undersized, I would expect that the gas cutting could begin as soon as the primer is struck and that might result in the beginning of gas cutting before the bullet moves forward to seal the bore. Once the cut beings, I would not expect lead displacement as you expect, to fill the ever widening gap. You might need to consider sizing to make that bullet round, and then seating to an overall length to still pass the thunk test, as well as feed from the magazine. Single coat or double coat of your tumble lube?

Leading is related to fit, design, lube, bore condition and your uncle's
dog's favorite doggy treat. . . . . . well, it only SEEMS like the last item
some days. ;-)

Make sure you aren't too small diameter and then I'd look for double dipping
in the souped up MuleSnot lube.

My XDs brand new was leading. First time that I have had to use Chore Boy to remove lead. Hoping it will smooth out some with some more J bullets. Have not slugged it. Same bullet - 200 grn H&G # 68 clone w/ 45/45/10 lube and sized .452. Has worked very well in all others, leading in the XDs...
