The older Lyman lubesizers look a lot stronger and better made than the new ones. I have the RCBS and while I guess it is not too bad there is room for improvement as most of you know. Would the older Lyman 45, the one with the guide rods, take the same dies and top punches? If so I notice there is a set screw that looks like it hold the die in place. Is that what the groove on the top of the dies is for? I am thinking of trying one of these as there seems to be some like new ones that keep showing up. Any thoughts or knowledge of these would sure be nice.

I have a Lyman 45 and love it.
I have also helped 2 of my friends get them. They feel the same as I.

Good Luck !

Yes your dies will work in a Lyman 45 and yes that's what the groove at the top is for.

The old 45 has a weak link where the handle attaches to the top casting. The OLD old ones have a shouldered screw there, the NEWER old ones have a pin. Either way, they don't like a lot of pressure being applied to the handle......

BTW, I love mine and wouldn't trade them for the world, just use them within their limitations...
