i just picked up a XDm in 9mm i did not slug barrel just thought i would try the boolits
i have made up and work with no issue in my 92FS. my new XDm is a nice shooting pistol
but after i got home and started to clean my guns up the XDm had a lot of lead in the barrel
my 9mm load is 3.6gr of B/E lube is carnauba red sized at .358. now this load works great in my 92FS
i now the XDm has a match grade barrel could my boolits be too big ? oh the boolit is 124gr
lyman mold #358242
thanks

i would like to add i use the lee FCD and this is a like new pistol i bought it used but looks
like it was not shot at all

they could be.
look at the difference in how their throats are cut.
I'd bet that the xdm has a real abrupt change from chamber to rifling with no leade to speak of.

If you are using the Lee FCD, then you need to pull one of your loaded rounds and check to see how much the FCD has swaged down the slug. You will most likely find that the slug is now a lot smaller than the 0.358 dia. that you started with.
The Lee FCD is made to be used with jacketed bullets.

The boolit may or may not be swaged down and for sure it will not be "a lot smaller" unless Lee made the FCD out of spec. I like the handgun FCD but not for oversized boolits. It can swage them down to SAAMI spec and most 9mms like oversized boolits. Better not to use the handgun FCD with oversized cast boolits.

My 9mm XD had a really abrupt leade to the rifling, and seemed to actually cut strips of lead off the bullet instead of simply engraving the rifling. I guess first of all, you really need to know your bore dimensions, simply saying it's a "match" barrel really doesn't say anything. You need to know for certain.

i pulled a boolit its not swaged down . so will a bigger boolit cause leading ?

My bore was right at .357, I sized to .358. Chambering was good, leading was bad. I did a "pound cast" of my chamber & rifling to find out what the issue was. Hopefully your barrel isn't like mine was.

Too small causes leading, NOT too big.

I have an xd five inch 9mm. Bore slugged out to .3555. I have had leading issues with the lee tumble lube round nose bullet with recluse lube sized to .357. Alloy is straight wheel weights air cooled. I have since switched to the lee 120 gr TC bullet and powder coat sized to .357. So far in early testing I have been getting excellent accuracy with zero leading.

I have an XD9 that works well. It slugged to .3555, I size to 357 and it works well. I found that water dropping helped a lot, my lead was too soft. I now use 50/50 wheel weights and range scrap. I even got the Lee TL's to work, they are also water dropped. For the TL's, I do not size, they come out of the mold at about 358. Strangely enough, my air cooled worked well for a while but suddenly leaded up my barrel. strange as hell. BTW, super accuracy with the Lee mold, better than the Lyman IMHO.
good luck!

I have over 13,000 rounds through my XDm 5.25 9mm and at least 11,000 of those are with the Lee 356120TC (not TL) sized .356, 1.055" OAL, CR lube and taper crimp. The do ~1100 fps. I clean the gun about 500-600 rounds and all I use is a brush, no leading. This is with a 3/3/94 alloy. I tried .357 size in my XDm but found no difference in results, so I stay with .356. Each gun is different so maybe if you push the load a little more, it might not lead. Will not hurt to try .357 or .356 size but I don't think that will solve the problem. Be sure to just change one thing at a time. I use the 3/3/94 alloy because I found softer alloys were not as accurate in my guns (more than one 9mm). All part of the loading game. Good luck.

Could newness of a bore affect it? I noticed with a new aftermarket bore I initially seemed to need more chore boy time than with the old shot out poly.

My XDm in 40 has plenty of leade but will shave lead even PCd if oversized. My PX4 is even worse. Large chamber, small bore.
