I'm waiting for a mold to arrive so I can't cast boolits yet, but I cast the lead I got from the scrapyard into ingots so it would be ready. I'm using pretty basic equipment, a coleman stove and a cast iron skillet but it worked ok. Only problem was some of the ingots have little holes on the bottom. I used muffin tins since I had them handy, and only the first batch in them did that, I'm wondering if there was some cooking oil or something left behind?

It was a lot of fun but also boring for the first part, it sure takes 30 lbs of lead a long time to melt. Looking forward to my mold arriving.

Looks like pure lead. Those fuglies are from oil or non stickie stuff on the mold.
You can burn the stuff out to make pretty ingots if that bothers you.

yep something gassing out from the pan.
Teflon coating will do it too.

The second batch is already looking much cleaner, so it seems to be solving itself. As long as it's not hurting anything it doesn't bother me.

It is probably pure lead, it's very soft. I'm going to use it for a muzzleloader though so that's what I was after.
