I was looking for a new thermometer for casting. I found a Lyman at Cabelas for $40. I was not to happy when I turned the package over and saw "Made In China". Anyone have a link to a USA made one? Is RCBS made in America? Thanks Dave

The Rotometals thermometer I purchased several years back is USA made (Tel-Tru). Current link: http://www.rotometals.com/product-p/lead_thermometer.htm

They used to be, I think they still are. Tel-True used to make all the major casting equip thermometers but it looks like Lyman got a better deal from the Chinese. Sad.
Check the Tel-True web site and also Roto Metals, they carry a few different types.

They are a New York company and to the best of my knowledge all of their products are US made.

Yep, the Tel-Tru 200 to 1000-degree model.

I just got the Lyman thinking it would be made in the USA and not too happy, but if it works, I'll live with it. Next one will be a Tel Tru.

i have the rcbs its about a year and a half old give or take, I looked at the box the other day it says made in the usa on the back . Ive melted wheel weights and casted about 5 years or so now I never used to use a thermometer , now I couldn't picture myself NOT using 1. I use a small camp stove for melting wheel weights I used to just crank up both burners and let it run wild and hope I had wheel weights sorted good enough . now I just use the bigger of my 2 pots visegrip the thermometer to the pot and keep her at 600 degrees . it works out good incase I miss 1 that shouldn't be melted and I also go through ALLOT less propaine now.

visegrip the thermometer to the pot
Wouldn't it be kinder to the thermometer if you made a coiled wire 'holder' and vicegrip IT to the pot ... so you could just slide the thermometer into the coil?

actually I use the wire clip that came with the thermometer and have it bent to match the handle on the pot and visegrip the wire clip that's attached to the thermometer
