Do you loose much meat with those HP's? I've almost always used ACWW alloy in my 45-70's for hunting. Lots of different molds though!

Nice looking! Would hate to see the damage one of those would do on a deer with a shoulder shot! Probably great on a lung/heart shot!

This will be my first time using a cast HP on deer but I have shot a lot with 300gr Hornady HP's. I didn't see a lot of meat damage as long as I didn't hit the shoulder.

What did the bullets with the deep HP weigh? Mine with the shallow HP weighed 334gr checked and lubed. They were a little heavier than I wanted. Yesterday I put some across the chronograph at 1834 fps with 52grs IMR 3031

These work well on Wallaby. Tend to put them down in a hurry. Here's the link http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?193884-Wallaby-with-Cast-Hollow-Points-!!!

Your first kill with the mighty 45-70 will make you a lover of this cal. Only then I realizer how they killed buffalo at 1000yards with black powder with this round. 1800fps is about were I shoot my ranch dog 350gr. You wont be disappointed!

Yeah, stay away from shoulders!
Used a similar boolit once, shot behind a shoulder but exited the off shoulder and destroyed it---that from my BFR revolver. The rifle will gut, skin and grind a deer!

I've recovered some cast with 50/50 ww/lead from a soft dirt berm. They might have weighed 50-60 grains. Shed everything to about 1/8" in front of the gas check. But these might have been the deep hollowpoint.

In the hammer, I think flat nose would do pretty darn well at marlin load levels. Still need to try the shallow hollowpoint for expansion.

Very nice looking boolit - are you going to try some testing before taking them out - Water Jugs?

Sometimes I get a shot at a big hog and prefer a shoulder shot to anchor it, the RD 460-350 isn't afraid of big bones and ruins very little meat on a deer. Deer I shot Saturday with that boolit folded up on the spot with very little damage. Same boolit smashed a shoulder and the spine of a big hog a few weeks ago, died in it's tracks as well. All without a HP. Nothing against HP's but in the 45-70 I simply don't want or need them for hunting the critters I hunt.
