I have one of the new Lyman Model of 1878 Sharps rifles made by Pedersoli. Its a 45-70 with a 30 inch barrel and has a 1-18 twist. I have a Lyman 457193 mold that I can use for starters, but since the 1-18 seems to like heavier boolits I'd like to find a mold that would cast a boolit that is 459-460 in diameter and would weigh 500-530 or so grs. I do not want to use a gas check and I really want a flat nose. I'm going to primarily hunt with the rifle as opposed to target shoot with it. I'll use a 20-1 or 30 -1 alloy since I have plenty of pure lead and about 5 lbs of pure tin to mix. Also have a lot of WW if I need them but would rather stay on the softer side as opposed to harder. Lube will most likely be Gatefeo's best. Gonna load BP, not smokeless. Suggestions are welcomed! Will be my first foray into BP Cartridge loading.
