Hi all,

I have someone trying to sell me a die and I know there are a few 6.5x55 dies just want to make sure this is the right one.

The FL dies has Lee-6.5X55-E8 stamped on it and the seater is Lee-6.5X55-I8 any ideas what this might be?

Thanks

I do believe that those were production date codes.

so does that mean it's a Swedish mauser or something else?

As far as I know all 6.5x55 dies are Swedish Mauser. Never heard of it being called anything else. Pretty sure lead-1 is correct about production date codes. It's my primary game caliber. I bought a set of RCBS X-dies and while they do eliminate trimming I'm not 100% sure the accuracy is as good as imitation neck sizing with a standard FL sizing die.

What kind of rifle is yours? Mine is a Mauser '98 that I rebuilt as a hunting rifle- everything is modified or replaced. Only the receiver, bolt and bottom metal were reused and they have all had modifications. I've had excellent results on game with 120 grain Nosler Ballist Tips. The barrel I used has a 9" twist and doesn't shoot the 142 gr SMK as well as the lighter/shorter bullets.

The best groups have amazingly been from Remington 120 gr PSPs that I bought several years ago- 500 for $60.

6.5x55 is the one and only.
What might confuse the argu--- discussions is the other 6.5s.

6.5x58 Mauser
6.5×54 Mannlicher-Schönauer
6.5×53 R Dutch Mannlicher
6.5×52 Carcano
6.5×50 Arisaka
6.5 Critser Express
6.5 Gibbs
6.5 spence
6.5 Super Mashburn
etc., etc., etc.

Thanks guys, I was worried I might end up with something else.

David, I have a swiss ljungman rifle, AG42. Great rifle, very intricate, way advanced for it's time. The only "big" problem is it launches the brass 10' in front of you. So if you're over a ravine there goes that brass.

I'm hoping to use some 30-06 and resize it to 6.5x55.

Thanks again.
