I take my grandson out every two weeks so he can learn to shoot. Here is a pic of him shooting my STI Trojan 9mm. He has to police up brass, sort brass and tumble. Then I very carefully supervise him while loading on a single stage press. He gets 25 rounds to shoot at paper targets which are filed away for comparison of his marksmanship progress. Then he gets 25 rounds to shoot at cans and water jugs. It goes without saying that I have this boy's complete attention. The bottom picture shows his attention to muzzle and finger discipline while I am correcting his stance.

That picture of your grandson warms my heart. You do a good service for all us shooters when you introduce a young person to our hobby. It appears you are doing it just right because the grandson seems to be doing it just right. Thanks for doing it and for sharing.

I took him to the last gunshow at the Fairgrounds. He was impressed with a new world that he didn't know existed. Within the year, I will have him casting the bullets that he shoots, and maybe comfortable with a progressive Dillon press.

Lloyd,

I bought that gun from Dawson Precidion in 2002. He did his trigger jog, matched 5 mags to it, installed a fiber optic front sight and did away with the cheesy ambi thumb safety. Despite being a 9mm, it will outshoot a Les Baer Super Tac in .45. I had reservations about starting my Grandson off on the best gun in my safe, but it has the most managable recoil because of it's weight and 3.5 grs 231 under a 120 Lee TC and a 12 pound recoil spring. Grandson had to be able to field strip and clean it before he could shoot it.

Very, very good jaysouth. You should be quite proud of your Grandson and I'm sure you are.

Such pictures and stories warm the heart. Fine job your doing, if we don't get more juniors shooting now won't be but a few years until there will be nobody shooting.

cbrick,

The future of shooting sports is in OUR hands. One of my sons-in-law is a cop, the other a career Special Forces officer, not bragging, but my point is that neither of them had ever shot a gun before entering service. Each one of us has to get at least two youngsters involved in shooting if our sport is to continue in an overfemminized and politically correct atmosphere. Casting bullets and reloading them makes it a little bit easier on the wallet.

Outstanding!! Drop the isosceles stance and teach him the modified Weaver; his accuracy should improve, which can only help. FWIW.

Not just youngsters, anyone! I have taken at least a dozen coworkers who were non shooters to the range. They all enjoyed it and understood why I enjoyed it. They may never own a gun but they have had experience with responsible gun ownership and can appreciate why we do what we do. I figure that this may sway them in beliefs down the road.

That 1911 seems to fit him well. I too agree about going with the Weaver stance. Well done with the boy!
