Well I managed to get one of these and got it scoped and out to the range.

I had PPU 175gr Match and standard PPU 175gr ammo.

I had a heck of a time zeroing it.

25yds was no problem, got 2 shots touching 1" high.

then moved it to 100dys and then the trouble began.

First it was all my fault. I was excited and just wanted to shoot.

so that's pretty much what I did....

switching between 147gr and the two types of 175gr ammo really was horrible for trying to zero.
Plus I had a new scope I was unfamiliar with.

After all is said and done. I discovered that the 175gr PPU match will shoot 3" higher than the standard 175gr PPU ammo. Add that to the fact I was moving the cross hairs on the scope twice as far as I thought and sometimes in the wrong direction and it really made a mess for zeroing.

Toss in the 147gr ammo and you have a recipe for just pulling the trigger and making it go boom. :)

All I did to this rifle before firing it was take it completely apart and clean it, then assemble and shoot.

I will have to say I am very pleased with this rifle.

It was 32° this AM when I shot and there was NO breaze or wind at all!

I shot some of these when the barrel was cold, yea freezing cold, and some strings were when the rifle was smoking hot. Made for a good handwarmer, barrel was almost too hot to hold for a long period of time.

Here is my 100yd target I shot with the two types of 175gr PPU ammo. Top group of two is the Match the bottom two is the regular.

Here is my 200yd target with the standard PPU 175gr. The Match 175gr group at 200yds was twice the size.

Yea, 32° or colder this AM was NOT very motivating at all to want to get to the range. :)

Ruger is sending me a new magazine for this rifle as the one that came with it is broken, it was broken before I even shot it the first time. Emailed ruger with the problema nd specifics and they had one in the mail the next day. Rounds would not get pushed up far enough for the bolt to catch them and push them forward. Great customer service from Ruger.

Are you planning on shooting cast out of this rifle with it's dreaded 1:10 twist?

I am when mine gets here..[smilie=1:

Ordered a SS short barreled one today and hope I see it before next hunting season..

actually, this has a 1:12 twist and no this will most likely be a jword only gun... but no promises.

I hope you are right about the twist and Rugers website is wrong..
Their website has been wrong before..

hmm, I'll double check, I was hesitant about getting one because of the slower twist...

so I looked at the ruger website, it say's 10T, I sent them an email to confirm what it is.

I've been wrong before, so we'll see.

All current production Ruger .308's are 1:10

I haven't heard a bad report as far as accuracy goes on these rifles, great value.

I usually zero about 1/2" low at 25yds, pretty much puts me on at 100yds.

yep, just got confirmation from ruger they are 10T, I suppose I was thinkinga bout a savage or some other that was a diff twist, oh well.

yea, me too. I ordered two more mags for my rifle, always good to have a few around.

I did that with my rem 541T when it first came out. $12 per mag, I wined and moaned the whole time while paying for them. Now you can find them and they are $60 each when you do.

Same deal with my rem 788, now the mags are quite in demand. :)

I took both of mine out today. Cast is a go!

The full sized shot 5 into 2"@ 50y and 2.5" @100y. Not too impressive but then my compact shot 1" @ 50 and 100y. Shot another 25 rounds down the tube with 9 on paper for similar groups and steel 4x10 gongs at 100/200/300y I missed the 500.

The load was the LEE 150 GC and sized to .309 over 27g R7. That should be about 2,000fps I didn't bring my chrono. 24g is listed at 1750 to 34g at 2300. I'm casting more tonight to try conventional and epoxy lube.

Forgot to mention first group was 5 shots the rest 3 shots. Alloy was water dropped WW plus 2% 60/40 solder

Cases tumbled, deprimed, champhered, lightly belled with LEE case mouth die. Winchester LR primers. Seated to GC even with neck base. Then lightly crimped with the LEE crimp die. Dies LEE .308 custom compitition.
