View Full Version : Any Christmas Tree Guns Out There?

My best Christmas was back in the mid-70's when Pop finally broke down and bought me my first gun - a bolt action .22. I don't know how many millions of rounds went down that ammo-gobbling monster...I still remember the sense of adventure and promise that gun held. Looking back 4 decades and dozens of guns later...I have never really recaptured that initial awe and excitement...but I still feel the twinge when it is time to saddle up and go to the range, and I still get cranked prepping for the annual hunting seasons.

Do you have any future Boolit Masters getting their first guns this Christmas? Well? What did you buy them? Inquiring minds (and snoopy grumpy old farts) have a right to know! Pics of the guns and recipients would cheer this lonely old fart's heart mightily!

He's not a child since he's 35. But I gave my best friend a Remington 870 yesterday. There are a lot of reasons behind it. And it's his first firearm so I guess it qualifies ;)

This has been the year for me. None of these were under the Christmas tree, but they all came this month.
45nut gave me a quackenbush .22 single shot for my daughter, and sgt.mike gave me a Stevens favorite and a High Standard pistol! woo hoo!
I'm holding out hope that someday, when I'm rich and famous, Angie will reward my years of faithful service to her by buying me a nice 1911 (you listening honey??? I looooooove yoooouuuu!)
LOL!

I did get a Marlin 444 from my father in law, 1shirt. My daughter seems to think I already had enough lever actions, silly girl.

Tim, I hope she doesn't wait until you are rich and famous.

Good stuff, boys.

I have heard it said that God may not always give us what we want, but he is pretty good at giving us what we need.

I distinctly remember asking my wife for one of those Shiloh Sharps guns in 45-70...but I got soap instead! I wonder if Santa and my Maker are trying to tell me something...

I bought my little nephew his first BB gun: daisy buck edition. He properly carried it and we found a nice spot in the gun safe until we have time to shoot it:)

Never gotten a gun for Christmas, but I did get a nice double mantle Coleman lantern when I was a senior in H.S. Still have it, and still use it (very infrequently, I should add) that was 45 yrs ago!

I got my son a Henry youth model 22. Seven
Years old and gun number 8. My dad gave
me a couple of guns over the years. However
the only one I got for Christmas was a black powder
revolver kit. That was a fun one. Merry Christmas!

My Wife got a Marlin Golden Boy (1985 mfg) under the tree. Since she injured her wrist and with the surgeries that followed she can no longer shoot her favorite 357. Even a 22 pistol bothers her. She's anxious to get back out to the range so we can shoot together again.

The other day I was in The LGS, and a guy came in looking for a "Rear Sight Lifter". I heard him talking to the owner, The owner gave him a list of Smiths in the area that "Might have one". Before he left I gave him my number and told him I have a few that will fit. That evening he called and I gave him my address, He came by with a Nice used Marlin 25 That He had gotten for his son. The previous owner had removed the elevator to gain clearance for a scope. I was able to fix him up! I'm guessing he is opening it now! DR

Christmas of 1960 (13 years old) I got the first and only gun I have ever gotten for Christmas. It was a Steven's Model 94C 20 ga. I still have it in my gun safe. Probably the most memorable Christmas of my childhood!

I asked for a NOE bullet mold. Santa forgot to stop and get it.
When your family asks "What do you want for Christmas" and you print off the page with contact info, what do you say when you get a jacket that does not fit?
I go my buying by myself.

No guns, but 10 boxes of Eley 22LR ammo came in the mail yesterday. 100 rounds each of 5 types my brother purchased back in the 80's for his target guns. He still has those guns, plus a couple of Daystates which are FANTASTIC shooters. I shot one of them last Turkey Day and was very seriously impressed. Pictures were uploaded to here in another thread: search for air guns. ... felix\

I didn't get a new toy from Santa but, I did get an idea for a new toy that goes bang and lauches lead. NOW I have to research my idea and see if it is even feasible and if it is, if I can afford to pursue it. Retirement can be costly when the idea fairy plops one in an idle mind.

Yes, and I might point out that even on the outskirts of town a kid or two with a gun or two wouldn't draw a SWAT team in response.

Since when is your mind "idle" ? Sometimes the G.I.F (good idea fairy) is a temptress of the 1st degree...that part I get, but your mind "idle" simply not buying that.

I did get a toy from Santa, but he delivered my Charles Daly Mauser wearing REM798 laminated wood in 30/06 in June....he was a bit early, but I did not complain.

My first was a 22 Hornet over 410 break barrel. One of those little survival guns. I shot the heck out of it before selling it a few years ago when I way outgrew it and couldn't shoot it anymore. I wish I had hung onto it now to someday give to my kids, but when I was 15 that never crossed my mind.

My second I got when I was 16 My dad gave me a Stevens 200 In 7mm/08. I shot that gun until I wore it out, and then rebarreled it to 22/250. It was one of the ones stolen when all my stuff got stolen a while back.

This year, I got a 30/06 barrel for my Handi Rifle :)

First revolver I ever owned was a .36 cal Navy percussion I bought used in 66. I mentioned to my wife how much fun they were to shoot several months ago and she bought me a Pieta 1851 .44 revolver with an extra cylinder for Christmas!!!! If I can find some caps I'll check it out this weekend.

One of the best Christmas guns I ever got was a T/C Renegade from my son. That got me into Black powder shooting and historical re-enacting. BP guns now seem to be breeding in the safe. Mostly flintlocks now but the old Renegade still has a respected spot in the safe.

Back in May I bought 2 MSGO (MS GunOwners) lowers in the last group buy we had as Christmas presents for the 2 sons. Been buying all the other stuff as I could find it at a decent price.

We normally open presents on Christmas Eve and I wrapped the stripped lowers in one box, their lower parts kits in another, the stock parts in another, the bolt in another, and the upper assembly in another box.

I assisted the youngest putting his together last night. The oldest and his family came over for Christmas dinner today. After dinner the youngest helped the oldest complete his!! I was great watching them sit in front of YouTube cussing at times but finally accomplishing the mission!!

To top it all off, the oldest, as he was getting ready to leave asked "Where is the Ammo?" These ain't much good without Ammo -- told him to come back tomorrow and we would take them out and give them a spin!!

Of course the grandaughter has to get in every picture she can!!

I remember Carrying my Winchester 1890 from home up into the hills behind us and going 'hunting' with some friends with a pocket full of .22WRF back in the 1950s in Sun Valley a district in the San Fernando Valley portion of Los Angeles City. We had to walk/climb about a mile up the 'canyon' until we were past the houses and into a small Olive Grove that still existed from before the houses were built. We shot at 'targets' of opportunity until I was challenged to hit a sparrow sitting on a tree limb about 25 yards away. I hit it, and when we got to where It fell, I found I had hit it in the eye. I decided two things at that point; first - to quit while I was ahead, and second - I did not like killing song birds. We left for 'home' shortly after that.
Now days I doubt the grove is still there as we have had Several major Fires covering the area of hills since those days of my youth. Too many springs of ash grey hills as the aftermath of the fires.
Now days There would be a Major Police Response to a Report of a 'child' or 'children' caring a firearm across streets. There is NO hunting allowed inside City limits, No open carry of any Firearm, and No minors with firearms permitted.
Such is the current status in the "Peoples Democratic Republic of California"
Best Regards,
Chev. William

A few christmases back I gave my son in law an 870 I had when I was a teenager. He didn't have a shotgun so he is very greatful. My grandson (his son) got a daisy buck on his birthday on Dec. 16th. He's only 4 so he doesn't get bb's yet, and only then supervised.

My youngest grandson got a 243 sps rem and my grandaugter got a 243 youth sav axis from us yesterday. All the grandkids now have 243s. Not my favorite caliber but i wanted them all to have something that was light recoiling so it would be fun to shoot so that they would actually practice and i wanted them to all have the same caliber to make loading for them all easier for me and something that when im gone and if they dont handload themselves by then would be easy to buy ammo for.

Christmas 1971 was my first.... an Ithica M-49 single shot .22. Really it was for my brother and I and boy did we put a ton of rounds through it. Lucky for me, he married a crazy anti-gun woman so we didn't have to fight over it so now it has the honored front position in my safe.
This year I scored with an older Lyman 452374 2C and a Beta Master Chrony. Putting them both in action this weekend.
A Happy New Year to all.

In 1960 Santa gave me a nice Winchester 67A single shot (still have it). Late 60's a model 1200 Ted Williams 12ga. arrived. Flash forward to three years ago when Santa was nice enough to provide my Grandson with T/C muzzleloader. Last two years he has taken bucks on opening day. He just turned 13.91643

Santa left money in large denomination bills!

So I went out today and bought the Mossy 223/5.56 MVP I have been eyeing.

Already cast 48ea) Bator 223's in HMG and shot a dozen with standard primers and 2.2g Titegroup in my garage range. Next I will load the real lead dudes for about 1500+ fps playing around. I will never shoot my many 22LR's again! I can reload 223's cheaper.

And will finally load some of the many thousands of 55gn FMJ BT's I have for "real" action rounds!

With 30 round AR15 mags in it, I can shoot at the range for a long time B4 reloading.

I put a very good 3x9 x 40 scope on it and zero'd it in with the laser bore lite with final tweaking at the range soon.

My baby boy is 21 now so I got him his first Christmas gun many years ago. However, he did get me my first gun from one of the kids.

He got me a Taurus Judge. I kinda like having a grown son!

I thought maybe it might be good for squirrel and rabbit hunting when loaded with birdshot.

I took it to the range and quickly figured out I won't be hunting small game with it. It patterns well out to 7 yards. At 25 I put 7 pellets on a 18 x 24 target.

It is a blast to shoot and it sits next to the bed as a defensive weapon now.

My first was a 410 J.C.Higgins, bolt action, single shot. That was a great Christmas. This year I gave my nephew a .44 cap an ball revolver. He couldn't believe it. We'll head out to the range next week an I'll show him the how's an how not's.

I got a new Galco Shoulder Holster for my 1911's. I made the rounds Christmas day and I saw two different shotguns and one souped up 10-22 that had been given for Christmas.
