As Ben says "Just got to love those two groove barrels".

Awhile back a friend dropped of 15# of Red Dot, he stopped shooting Trap.

Soooo Yep I just had to try some out.

It's only worth what you paid for it right!

Well, I loaded up some NOE 311284s and Lyamn 311332s, I did not exactly use "The Load"
of Red Dot, Instead I used 12.7grs.

3 parts COWW, 1 part Lino with 2% Sn added.

I greased them up with 50/50 and tumbled them in Alox.

Gator checks applied and sized 311.

Note the 311332 is the out of round, miss aligned mold I got recently acquired.

Despite its failings it has performed well in my 03a3s and 03.

Warmed the barrel up with four rounds and then got to work.

Here is the results out of my two groove Remington 03a3 w/ Lyman 10X Permacenter, other wise stock .
(I did not tap it, some else did the damage before I bought it)

The 311284 shot a 11/16" 5 shot group, the 311332 shot a 7/8" .

The 311284 would have been 1/2" if it weren't for one "flier".

The 311332 had 3 touching two just off.

(Got to learn to up load pixs, Darn!)

Keep em flying! Dan S.

Sounds like you've got it working. Try your loads at 200 yards using 600-yard sight dope for Ball M2 and you will have some fun.

Outpost75 Will do .

I've also got an 03 with a lyman 48 Long Slide and 17 Globe front ,want to try that load in it.

So much fun isn't it?

I would have thought the 3/1 COWW/Linotype had enough Sn already; but I cannot argue with your results. Good Job.

I was going to ask that also but the results speak for themselves

25, 50 or 100 yards?

100 yds.

I only use 50 when I sight in a scope.

At that distance rock throwing should work as well, why waste powder and shot?

As for the tin.

You guys are correct.

May seem like a waste, not having it does not make a difference.

However I doooo like the way it fills out the mold and ,makes the boolits look like they are polished silver.

Skip the Sn no harm done.

Going to put a Timney trigger in, right now I'm working with an extremely crisp 10# pull.

I have to say that not all went that well.

I also tried the 311299, it only shot an 1 1/2".
I can cut that in half with my iron sighted 03 and 29 grs of 2520

The other disappointment was the 407, 467 and 466.

But that will change I'm sure.

it might be my imagination but it seems that my 03 and a3s like the heaver nose riders.

BTW groups like this can be had with good iron sights , the correct inserts and target.

This is my first scoped center fire, I'm 66 been shooting cast for OMG 50 years.

In two groove barrels, namely those used in the O3-A3 (and 5 groove barrels used in the 1917's) long nosed bullets like the 311332 and 311334 will shoot better. The reason is well known...The barrels mentioned have most of the bore circumference taken up by the lands and they like long noses or bore-riding surfaces to positively guide them....but those noses cannot be undersized or the bullet will not be correctly supported and will tilt off axis while going down the barrel and the shooting will be wild. Some other designs like the Lyman 311299 and the 311291 will also shoot well in the 2 groove/5 groove barrels. Some shooters also report that the RCBS silouette designs will also do well for the same reasons mentioned above. LLS

LLS You hit it on the head.
I have several NOE molds for the 299.
One is the 311299 and one the 312299.
I also have an early Lyman 314299.
The nose diameter on all vary, the Lyman being the largest at .303.
Fortunately the NOEs cast slightly over sized with my alloy.
That along with some "Bumping" during sizing allows me to tailor my loads to the gun I'm using.
The 312299 in the 03 shoots one minute all day long when the light is right and I do my part.
Of course it's a four groove.

The 311332 will get me 1-11/4"

But they really shine in the two grooves.

Trying to get several lighter Bore riders (Lee 312-155 and NOE 311-155 FN) to perform like these three 311299,31332 and 311284.

The recipe is out there, just haven't found it yet.

Thanks for the kind words and info Dan S.
