It might as well be purple. Illinois has that stupid purple paint law. It allows Illinois landowners or leasees the option of using purple paint markings on trees or fence posts on their property as a "no trespassing" notice. That's cute.

" The "Purple Paint Law," designed as an alterrnative which Illinois landowners can use to protect their property from trespassing, took effect on Aug. 22, 2011." www.dnr.illinois.gov/hunting/Pages/PublicAct97-0477.aspx

Lets put some sparkles in that paint so the coon hunters can see them post at night time and the coyote hunters can see'em while it's snowing.

"pur - nr -ple " accordding to Uncle Si.

the best sarcasm is not realized until some time later. how much later depending upon the acuteness level of recievee..
the trick is composing your remark on a level that is compatible to the level of intellect of the recievee. to keen and you have wasted your caustic wit by sailing it over their heads where it will never be seen nor appreciated.
too simple and you have placed yourself on the same level as the one you are wanting to sting.
which is worse actually than not saying anything at all for you have only proven your stupid, but with a pissy attitude.
so,, with all that in mind and to reduce the risk of wasting some of mybetter work perhaps we could incorporate a few lighter shades of mauve...
just so i can give a few of the dimmer bulbs on here a heads up if you will that i am sending a brilliant jab their way.
its a chore sometimes dumbing things down around here, so i am all for it.

PURPLE is PERFECT!

Purple is the official color used by cities and munis for "recycled water" piping for irrigation. Non-potable.....but processed thru the ****e plant. We have a lot of it down here in AZ. I guess it is used to warn the illegals from drinking and bathing in the free water! (I have been told the color purple is in the Spanish language and no bilingual label is required!)

But there is a whole lot more of "it" in blue states and in DC! (just not processed)

NOT sarcasm......only the facts, Jack.......only the facts!

Purple is perfect, even though does have historic liturgical meanings.

Some of us are shade weak. I'm red - green shade weak. Not color blind.
Purple doesn't exist for me. What I see is a blueish color that doesn't look right.

Until a few years ago, I didn't know khaki was supposed to be -A- color. In a stack of khaki pants I see a range of shades. I can sort them from darkest to lightest. I also didn't know why people would wear pants with legs of different colors.

On the good side, grass is green because people keep telling me it is - bunnies are brown. ;-)
I can also tell if Round Up is working, the next day or the day after.

Sorry guys, I responded before reading the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pages.

I was joking about the postal shoot. Especially because I doubt Gunloadmaster has time to mess around with changing a person's avatar to purple or such tom-foolry, but since we are on the subject, I would like to propose a Christmas match between us friends here. Something that when spoken of would seem to be sarcasm, but is in reality, fact.

Many doubt a handgun shooter's ability to achieve accuracy at longer distance, but I am personally related to a man who used to consistently hit a 6" gong at 100 yards with a standard 1911 pistol (Colt MKIV, with a collet bushing. No other mods).

I propose a 100 yard pistol shoot.
Handguns only.
Cast boolits only.
10 shots only.
Target will be a standard piece of 8.5X11 paper. Whoever hits it the most times wins two pounds of solder from me (63%tin, 37%lead).
if any shooter here, manages to land all 10 shots in a 4" circle at 100 yards, I will give him 5 pounds of solder, and 10Lb of WW lead postage paid. (touching does count, so use your 45. LOL!)
All groups must be posted here for all to behold and admire.
What do you say, my sarcastic booliteers? wanna do something fun?

I am in for this postal shoot, but some questions remain: Bench, supported, off hand two hands, or off hand one hand (strong side or weak side), and I suggest rim-fire and center-fire classes. Do you classify TC single shots as pistols?

Like I said, I think that TC pistols would be cheating, but if its all you got, then just wrap your nose pickers around the bang switch and get to work!

This is just for S&G, in the true spirit of walking outside and having some fun on Christmas with a new handgun. If we all had a clump of dirt the same size, that would work just as well.

This is shooting any way you feel comfortable. We will be shooting a standard piece of paper at 100 yards. No do overs, no erasies.
Go to your favorite shootin hole with 50 rounds of your best ammo (as in cast boolits made by you) and one sheet of paper.
Fire ten shots and see of you hit the paper. If you miss all ten, then do it over till you connect with the paper.
If at any time in a 10 shot string you tag the paper, then as soon as you finish that string of ten, you're done. The target must be posted here with whatever you got in that string.
If you fire all 50 shots and none of them manage to connect with the target, then you're done, and I probably wont feel alone anymore LOL!
Now, the important part:
Whoever can draw a 4" circle somewhere on that paper and touch or cover all ten boolit holes, I will send him 2Lb of solder and 10Lb of COWW ingots, because that person is a dam good shot in my book! That's first place.
After that, second place goes to the runner up and that person will get 2Lb of solder delivered to their door.
Third place get's a hearty cyberspace slap on the back and personal PM from me informing them that they got 3rd place! WooHoo!!!
Those are the rules (Did I miss anything?)

Again, I don't want any TC pistols unless it's your only option. The spirit of this postal would be better served by you hitting the paper once at 100 yards with a keltek 380 than stacking a 1" group with a scoped single shot handgun.
Other than that, any caliber you want, any hold you want, any rest you want.

Obviously, any target that has more than 10 holes in it will be disqualified.

Rick, you must have missed the "40 Caliber" & up rule that was posted in white font in the original post. These new font colors can be tricky. 35 cal was excluded so your FA Silhouette gun won't make the cut either.

Hmmm.... Mr Goodsteel, kind sir, if you insist on "joking in the sarcasm thread" please use the above indicated font and color. I am up for the postal pistol paper punch-off.

DRNurse1
12-22-2013, 07:27 AM

Got it. Off to the 100 yd range Christmas Eve to annoy the rifle guys. Mr Goodsteel, thank you in advance for turning this thread to a positive end.

"1/2 inch group" key? Must be on the toolbar with the font options that I foolishly decided to disable-and don't care to look for. I used to have a few handguns that performed quite well @ 50 yds and at least one that did quite well @ 100 yds but it never saw a boolit. Today's range trip was cancelled and next week I'm hunting but I'll have to try this someday just for grins. It would probably take me at least a few rounds just to get on paper so I won't be in the running for Tim's generous offer. I have a 586 that is easily capable of 3MOA @ 50 yds but it's been a long time since I was able to pull this off. I was using store-bought swaged bullets at the time, haven't gotten around to casting for it.
Hunting loads in my 45 Colt RBH might be up to it, could be interesting.

Okay, I will try again today. I am using a 12 x 12 repair target center for the 50 yd Conventional pistol target at 100 yards so I can see the target. I can get the group less than 8 inches wide but I cannot seem to hold the vertical line less than 11 inches even off of sand bags. I will switch to my target pistol with the 5 inch BBL instead of my officers model carry gun.

I'm looking forward to the stories of the guys on the rifle range punching holes in paper with LEAD Boolits while the rifle guys can't hit the BIG gong with optics and a bipod.

I have a pistol box that is about 12 x 12 x 16 (FiL made it) and the 4 rifle guys chuckled and watched me walk down the range (100yds is a LONG way, I think I will stick to the pistol stuff), hang a 2 x3 foot blank target with the 12 x12 repair center, walk back (did I mention 100 yds is a LONG way) set up to shoot at this target (after the RO activated the range) then OHH and AHH when I put 25 rounds on the paper in fairly short order.

Yes, these are cast boolits, and yes they weight 230 grains (3x the mass you are sending downrange, rifle guy who asked), and yes that is a GI type pistol with open sights. I let him try five rounds and he missed the blank paper...must be the sights.

Silly rifle guys, I knew I could hit the paper from sand bags but that 11 inch vertical limit on this challenge got me. For SaG, I shot 10 rounds off hand after rifle guy gave up, all on the blank paper but MUCH further spread.

I will have to hand load similar case lengths and boolit weights with EXACTLY the same powder charge and try again later. I hope these guys show up.

This sure is fun!

I'm doing my best to get to the range today. I finally got some loads made up at 12:30 last night (there's plenty of time to sleep when I'm dead).
This is for my JP saur and sohn 44 magnum SAA revolver.
So far, this gun has had trouble shooting a sub 4" group at 30 yards much less 100, because the throats are so far oversize. I modified my 429421 mold to drop throat diameter boolits (.437 :holysheep) and the cartridges just barely fit in the cylinder loaded in Starline brass. My best guess is that this will be accurate, but who the heck knows?
I lubed the boolits with FWFL, and seated them on top of 18.2gr of 2400 with a decent roll crimp.
I hope it works.

About a year and a half ago I was at the sportsman's club range while the Coast Guard air crews were qualifying with their 5.6's and 7.62's all tricked up with the usual sight improvements. They couldn't seem to hit a 12"x12" target while I sat at the other end of the line shooting at golf balls with my 10" Contender 32-20 and CB's (even hitting them occasionally). As I giggled, they got red…. Anyway, I concluded that Homeland Security may need those billions of rounds they ordered.

The light was dim, and the sights blended into the background too well. I rubbed a piece of brass on the front sight trying to get a little more definition, but it didn't help much. I was wishing I had a file, or a tube of whiteout or something but hell, in the spirit of the match, I just decided to shoot it. I connected twice with my first 5 shots, and missed the second five.

I used the New model BH 7 1/2" in 30 Carbine, MP 311-410 HP PB @ 130 gr. Revolver had a Bushnell TRS 25 red dot and the dot was larger than the target so not real good but it's a group, kinda.

There's a big difference between shooting a lot of guns all the time and shooting one rifle all the time. I can pick up almost anything and get practical accuracy out of it, but I don't get to spend much time with just one. Kind of like a jack of all guns, master of none.
I'm trying to find a fix for this problem, and I think what I need to do is pick on rifle, and one pistol and focus on those two for a whole year. Just take them to the range with the guns I'm proving for clients and shoot them every week. The last couple years, I've been trying to keep my stable rotated, and I'm sucking wind. I'm just going to paster most of them with RIG and zero in on this 44 pistol, and the 308 rifle. Maybe that will work better.
It's tough though because I dearly love my 358's and my 45-70, and then there's the M48 I wanted to dink with, and the high standard GB, and my 1911's, and....................

See, told ya a red dot isn't for shooting groups but it did get it on the target. I'm gonna up the charge another .5 gr & try it again. That load started at 8.0 gr SR 4759 & it wouldn't even shoot patterns & the chrono numbers were even worse. Looked some better at 8.5 gr, better yet at 9.0 gr and these targets were shot with 9.5 gr. & best yet @ 1050 fps. See what 10.0 gr does. The MP 311-410 PB HP is devastating on ground squirrels.

John (winelover) was also shooting my New Model BH 30 Carbine, same boolit, same load, same red dot.

It's tough to get old, I just couldn't see the iron sights anymore so I put the red dot on it, this was the first time for me ever shooting a red dot. It helps but it's not exactly for shooting groups, the red dot is half again the size of the Bullseye on the target so all ya can do is cover it up & guess where center is.

A side note, I'm using 32-20 brass in the 30 Carbine, by water weight it has 5% more capacity & is a rimmed case.

I have one mold for the 44 It's a Lyman 421429 that I modified to have .437 driving bands, a beat up 311466 for the 308, a new 30 SIL, and a 200 grain Lee single cavity.
I'm wanting to buy a new mold for the 44, but I want to find something that works first. Those throats are huge!
