 At 9 am yesterday, with the sun just getting in my eyes. I fired one round out of my 300 Win Mag at about 125 yards. And he was on the run too. Talk about a lucky shot. [smilie=w:

Lord, Lord

I sure hope we get a "sword" hunting season here in NC! But the bad part is, now the Vikings are moving in. There goes the neighborhood!!!!!

[smilie=1: Well, you see. I didn't use my 300 Winchester Magnum by Stevens at all. I didn't use for ammo in a Winchester case, 71 grains of Re 19, and a 200 grain FLGC made by Speer. The max amount of powder gave the best accuracy. What I did was throw the sword 125 yards. It entered right behind the ribs on the right side, messed up the lungs, and clipped the heart. I thought I had missed when he kept running a little, fell down, got up, then fell down and rolled over a couple of times.
I've got the shell taped to my computer monitor. I might leave it there forever. This is my first kill ever. Well, I killed a muskrat with a 22 once. My Dad didn't want it around his garden.
That buffalo did look like a coyote. He was running in front of a patch of scrub oak and that made him look small like a coyote. Ya, that's right, I thought I was shooting a coyote. Oops, I mean "spearing".
And wouldn't you know it. SWMBO chickened out of going. I've got to get this city girl out into the country. I guess next time I'll have to hog tie her and drag her kicking and screaming.

Deano,
Congratulations on your first kill! You are not alone and would be suprised at the amount of people on this board that do not have a kill yet. You sure went for a big one......

Deano; your lucky, cause I knows from experience that carting such a large knife, rifle and such heavy ammo around searching for game would tire a lesser man out. [smilie=1:

Now you have to cut up and carry out that beast just to stick most of it in the freezer. Or you could set up camp right there and either eat the beast before moving on or 'jerk' the meat.:-D

Mind you; sharpening those there skinnin' knife can be a real hazard ifin' you don't do it right.

Best wishes,
John.

It would be easy to gut that bison with that big skinning knife .... Just whack it in two pieces and dump out the contents !!

Congratulations, I have never seen a picture of someone with a Bison or Moose down that didn't have a huge grin. Just something about all that meat down and the work hasn't set in yet. Gianni.
