I have this mold and it cast .475 RB's. Pure lead, clean hot mold, hot lead and BPSL used on all surfaces of the mold. This mold came in a package deal and along with a .595 Lyman mold has me stumped as to what to use the .475 for.
Does one use extra thick patches for 50 Cal ML?
Could it be used for round ball loads in a 475 Linebaugh?

You found a .595 Lyman? I'm jealous!

I think that the .475 ball mold is intended for the Ruger Old Army 44 cal, cap and ball pistol.

It uses a .457" one.

Maybe it is for easy loading of a fouled .50 cal. with tight patch.

There were a few custom 48 caliber rifles made and somebody may have had a wore out bore freshed out to .48.

I realize this is over a year old but I have a Swedish rolling block that appears to be chambered in 36 gauge (.now .410). The Swedes made lots of gauge rifles on both rolling block actions and as combo guns. This is a gunsmith special and its bore is .475. Case would be just shy of 2".

I have a few 475 barrels and I thought it would make a good T/C contender BP pistol barrel.

JUST purchased a Ruger #1S in 475Linebaugh. Seems as thought the Hornady 0.480"RB factory round ball should make for easy low power loads?? Saw this as I was going to see what sizer Lee makes near 0.476" if at all. 0.480" might shoot as is with a smear of lube.
