I spoke with Andy Lee today and he said they have opened up their custom shop again. Molds are taking 6 to 8 weeks. I did not think to ask him about other custom items like sizers, dies, etc.

It was supposed to be after the first of the year. Very good news.

Good news in fact. When I contacted them this summer, I was told they had too much other work to catch up. The problem is, now I don't remember what I was going to order...

I know I need to get a set of 303 Pygmy dies made to go with the barrel JeffinNZ sent me last year.

I ordered a custom .310 sizing die on the 9th. It shipped yesterday (16th)

The issue with their custom molds, they are as much or more than others & IMO, not the same quality. For $175, I would go to Accurate or Mountain, Accurate getting the nod for 5cav.

$175 PLUS the cost of the mold....
Makes it even worse.

if we did a group buy though they don't charge the 175.00 if I understand correctly

I guess I won't see the $26.99 .22 mold anytime soon.

There is a $125? (can't remember if AndyLee said 125 or 175) set-up fee for a custom mold. If you order 25 molds the fee is waived.

What about a group buy for a 6 cavity to fit our 7 and 8 mm mausers?

a six cavity would be nice for my 7mm. I would like to see a Lyman 358242 also, actually there are quite a few older lyman designs I would like.

Not sure I'd use them for custom sizers after the fantastic service and product I got from our own Buckshot. Got a custom Lee style push through sizer from him, and it was perfect. Excellent workmanship, great price, and fast turnaround.

Heey! Thank you rmatchell - just ordered one. I guess with the chronic outages I've quit browsing for stuff. I haven't had a bad Lee mold yet despite refusing to put much work into casting - xlox 'em and size with Trailboss. I look forward to this one because the mindless emptying of rimfires at 10 cents a piece just seems so hollow.

is the abator 55gr mold great for 223 rifle. Some have tried shooting coated.

Am I the only one who gets the shivers when people speak of another Lee group buy?

The memories of year long waits to get a mould out of spec still lingers in my mind.........

Well you have a choice. Wait up to 2 years for a group buy from someone like MiHec and get fantastic quality and exact spec results, or roll the dice on Lee, get it in a few months, and maybe get it perfect, maybe workable with a little fiddling, and maybe totally out of spec. I for one have never had a bad experience with a Lee group buy mold and so would buy again.

I will say this: they are the one large volume company I know of that can turn around large group buys in a reasonable time frame. Granted sometimes they are more backed up than others, but at least they aren't a one man operation.
