I went to Cabelas in Glendale Arizona yesterday. I thought I should get some more Large Rifle primers. They had them and actually all the different sizes. I bought one box of the LR primers. I thought but wasen't sure that I had been raped! With tax they were $41.49. Talk about sticker shock.

I saw some at Scheels locally in the low to mid 30s. Prices varied quite a bit based upon manufacturer.

If I was desperate I would pay that price but not by choice.

That's about the going rate for the Winchester, Remington, CCI at the local gun shops in North West Alabama. $38 - $40 with tax. The Wolfe are a little cheaper when they have them on the shelves. I think I paid $36 out the door for some Large Pistol in Winchester a couple of months ago down at a little shop outside Ft McClellan in East Central Alabama. I guess it's the new normal.

That's the new price gents. CCI and others are at $37.00 per 1,000. Pay it or don't shoot.

Bass Pro here is about $45. I have plenty but my jaw drops looking at those prices.

Primers are still available on line for lower prices if you buy in quanity. Locally Small are ~33, large are ~39. Bought 9K CCI SP from MidSouth for 30.40 delivered.

Thank goodness I have a local supplier that sells whole sale.

I'm glad that I bought more components than I cold really afford before the last two elections. I understand saying that is not any help to guys just starting out in reloading or guys that are running short. I hope the prices now are not the new norm. I've got a local guy here that sells reloading supplies at decent prices but, I don't need anything.

The OP does not say what brand primers they were. The Cabela's by me has not raised their prices on primers. They were charging $35 per 1k of CCI when powder valley was charging $23. So they have been charging a lot for a long time. I've been buying CCI from them when they have them on sale for $30. That's only $3 more than powder valley so it makes sense for me to buy them and not have to pay shipping and hazmat.

My local guy does better then that.

Powder Valley had primers earlier this week for under $30/K. Just gotta order enough to amortize the shipping costs.

One LGS is selling primers for 6.99 a hundred. I waited for the gun show and got them for 37 a 1000 tax included. That same LGS wants 29 + tax a pound for powder but the gun show was 20 tax included.

When the stock of primers I have drops below 20,000, I'll start to worry.

If you buy primers at gun shows in 5000 piece cases you will save a little bit.

That is dependent on a lot of factors. They sell for $45 per 1k at the shows by me. Let's say they knock the price down to $40 per 1k. That's still $10 more per k for a total of $50 per 5k more than I pay at Cabela's. Even at Cabela's everyday price I would be paying $25 more per 5k then at the shows. There are to many factors to say who is cheapest at any particular time.

That's kind of my threshold especially on small pistol and small rifle primers. When I start approaching that number on either, I'll start buying primers again. I started stockpiling after the 1994 Slick Willy primer fiasco.

Locally in So Cal when I can find them, around $45.00 plus tax. I'm paying close to $.05 per primer. I'm working on large order for primers via mail to get cost down to around $.03 to $.035

Ditto for me. The most expensive primers I have cost me about $22 per K. Many, less $$ than that. Powder, I have a stockpile of many brands, many types, and many pounds.

Sorry I did not mention that the LR Primers I bought were Winchester. The last primers I bought before these was at a Phoenix gun show back about 1995. I remember that they were $12.99 a K. Of course I knew they had gone up because I keep close tabs on prices of reloading supplies. I really was not hurting much but I like to keep my supplies at a certian level and my LR primers were a little below that.

At the Harrisburg show this weekend, you could have all you wanted at $35 - $40 per thousand.

Right now I'm on easy street with Down South and waco, but sooner or later we're all going to be back in the buyer's lane. I doubt that they'll have gone down by then.

In that situation, I buy 5,000 to 10,000 at a time.

At a local gun show this weekend, primers were plentiful (all brands). Although I didn't need any, I picked up some Remington 1 1/2 (SP) for $30 per 1000.

They are $45.95 @ my LGS before tax. I'll pass. I keep a 2 year min supply of everything I shoot. When I start breaking into that, I order another years worth. So this current shortage isn't affecting me much & I shoot pretty much every weekend. I will have to start placing orders next year though, just so I can maintain my min. inventory.

The LGS closest to the house here is getting 49.95 for Federal, CCI and Remington before taxes. Needless to say I've been buying them 15 miles further down the road at $37 plus tax.

Heck if you guys just bought 1 box of 5K from Widners(wolf $23.40/K) and paid hazmat & shipping you'd get them to your door for about $31./K total. I bought 10K last week and they were $27.90/K to my door total.

Think you're right about the price. The primer manufacturers may come down a little but I can't see them dropping the price $12 to $15 per thousand as was the case a year and a half ago. I bought 5K Federal SP primers from Graf a year ago in November for 129.00. I don't think we'll see those prices again.

Nope that ship has sailed with the printing of $85B a month of the US $$. IMO, $30/K is going to be the new norm for domestics, a bit less, but not much, for the Russian or Czech. I got 5K Win LP in June for $30/k out the door, but don't expect to find them for that now.

Yep I saw them all over the place when I was there. Many said that after Sandy Hook, things would settle back to normal pricing by May 2013. I never saw a company lower it's price when they're selling all they can get or make, at a much higher price. ;)

Earlier this month, at the last Costa Mesa Gun Show, I bought 5,000 Winchester LP Primers for 145.99+tax. I could have bought Federal lp, or sp, or CCI for the same price. Not all sizes and makes were available, but what there was, there was a lot of.

The price of goods haven't gone up as much as the worth of your dollar has failed.
Thanks for the change BHO.

That is correct. The price of firearms and ammo hasn't gone up, the value of your dollar has been diluted by the gov. printing. It is the same as a tax except you don't get to vote on it. Just wait until this current flurry of printing really gets into the system.

I saw a good example of that today at the local Wally World. Those el cheapo dark chocolate cordial cherries that used to be $1.00/box were $1.38/box today!
