I know that this is not an important question, but I never have run across what the H&I in sizeing dies stands for. Herbert and Igor, Hapford and Ikosky? For some reason this is just bugging me!

Just the identity on an exploded diagram years ago. Those were labeled as parts H and I. Just kind of stuck.

I've wondered the same thing and a thought ran through my mind that maybe it was just a letter system that may not have a real significance. The expander 'M' die is another in that grain. Somebody will set me straight.:?

Now that makes sense, thanks for helping me scratch that itch!

Been wondering that for a while...

Didn't want to ask the dumb question if everybody else already knew...

And "G" is the top punch.

Yup, check Lyman schematic for the 45, 450 and 4500 lubrasizers. The parts are identified alphabetically. The top punch is "G", the sizer is "H" and the rod is "I".

And so the two parts together would be called something like "Sizing Die Assy (H&I)" to show you the parts that are included in the assembly.

Except they weren't.

Wow! Now that's a piece of trivia that I prolly won't ferget. I too, was too "gun shy" to ask...

The H, I and G designations go back farther than the 45, IIRC. I don't know for sure what sizer started the H, I, G designations; but I think it was the either the Armory sizer or the No. 1, if I even have those names right????

Some one on this board knows for sure, I think I read about it here (or castpics).

I read about it in one of my Lyman manuals. That might explain why so many don't know.

Does anyone read any more?
