Just wanted to drop in and say hi. Been lurking the last couple months, getting info , n thinking about casting my own boolits. Finally pulled the trigger, ordered some molds, cooked up my first batch. Used some magnum lead shot n solder for my alloy, learned how to make my own lune, and loaded up a bunch to try at the range tomorrow. Love this site, tons of great info. Look fwd to being here a long time!

Read up. Cast em, load, shoot em.

Welcome aboard.

Ignore the cabin fever, soon we will be back to bickering over minutiae regarding lube or something.

Welcome aboard.......please don't mention Doe Run. Those guys above talking about cabin fever get scary if they see it.

Welcome aboard! One word about the magnum shot. If that is your major source, be sure you have good ventilation, as it does have a fairly high arsenic content.

Welcome aboard.
I also use old shot as my boolit alloy. A year or so ago I scored a few hundred pounds of thick crusty oxidized shot from a long ago skeet field reclimation effort. It's a bear to smelt because of the oxidation and I do add a bit of tin (63/37 solder) to for perfect mold fillout but it's a great alloy for rifle and magnum pistol. I'm also a shotgunner/reloader and new shot of course, is way to pricey to use for casting (IMHO) so if you're using new, there are cheaper alternatives, vendors here for example.
Anyway, enjoy the journey....this is a great hobby.

Thanks for the info guys. Yeah it was some new shot, but it was a first time experiment. Tire shops around here are funny about WW's, most recycle therm. One offered me $60/5 gal bucket, but not sure about how many zinc etc'll be in there. Rotometals might get some of my business. In the meantime, shot my cast loads today, n they shot great!

Nice !
and nicely done
I was just about to demand some pics before I scrolled to the bottom of the thread.

I see you cast flat base bullets.
Flat base bullets shoot well in my handguns, revolvers mostly.
It looks like they are working well for you too.
I am on a mission to convince people flat base is better.
I don't know if it's 100% true or not, but I believe.
Those commercial bevel base bullets are ****.
My home cast flat base shoot as good as anything.
Did I mention flat base yet ?

Doing extremely good, perfect boolits right out of the gate too.
A good choice in a boolit also.

Welcome, I hope you enjoy yourself here as much as I do. Can't really add anything to what has been stated already, just read and research the stickies most questions have been asked and answered on here before. Great looking boolits, again enjoy yourself, this is the greatest site on the internet for this way of life.
