Marlin 336 micro groove casting mold question

My Marlin hates most lead,... Im told that there is a Lyman mold that it will love,.. can someone tell me the
numbers, so I can order one, and if anyone has one they want to get rid of.... Im all in...

I have the one you are looking for. It is a Lyman 358315, casts a 204 grain Round Nose designed for the .35 Remington. Since mine just arrived and I have had one casting session you can't have mine!!Ebay is your friend.

Another one to spend some time looking for is the universally reccomended RCBS 358-200-FN. NOE makes a very nice version of this one.

Slug your bore, and size your bullets .002" over groove diameter...

The bullet (mold) you are talking about is probably the 311041. It was designed for the 30-30 and has a flat nose to function through the tube magazine. I'ts advertised as dropping at 173 grs. In order for it to work in the micro-groove barrel you would have to have it drop at least .310" and .311" would be better. It is a popular bullet among 30-30 shooters.

I have an old Ideal single cavity 31141 which is the same bullet RickinTN mentions. This mold drop at 3125 and I size to 311 and always use a gas check. It does a good job for me in my 3030s. The Marlin MG will shoot cast fine if you size to the throat and over groove size. The hard part is getting a mold that drops large enough.

My 336 30-30 uses Lyman 311291 Gas Checked factory h. point & IMR 3031 , 25gr sized .309 (lubed white lable 2500+) OAL 2.500 make the lead a bit softer than called for Air Cool expands quite well. 2 deer 2 shots no leading problems . easy on the crimping will bulge brass makes a tight fit if over crimp. My Lyman 31141 does OK but not as accurate maybe I just prefer the HP KyBill

The RD boolits were both designed for Marlin MG barrels, and are my top choice. Shoot them as-cast, no sizing if they'll chamber. Easy-peazy!

Listen to Gear, he is 100% correct on this one. Lyman molds of recent manufacture have been notoriously small and with a Microgroove barrel the problem is compounded. I know of several good shooting MG barreled rifles, but all have one thing in common in they are oversize compared to most other manufactures' products. Slug your barrel and order a custom mold that will fit.

Marlin MG barrels tend to run larger in the groove and lands and most often do their best with "fat" 30 caliber bullets. Ranch Dog molds have a good reputation in delivering accuracy in the 30-30 Marlin MG. I received one last week and am anxious to give it a try.

I also discovered some years ago, quite by accident SAECO 305 which is sold as a 31 caliber bullet for the 303 British and I bought one for that purpose. It is not a very good mold for the 303 Brit, but it does make a great 30-30 Micro-groove mold. It is nothing more than their 307, which is their version of the 30-30 mold, fattened up a mite making it larger in the body and nose and a perfect fit for the MB barrels.
