I was browsing around recently, and found this 45 Colt hollow base mold by RCBS:

Has anyone ever tried these? I have always had excellent accuracy results from hollow base 38 special wadcutters, but I have never had the chance to try these for a 45. I know these were used in the old days, to help compensate for a wide variety of chamber/bore dimensions. I wonder how they would work with out-of-spec guns these days?

I have quite a few hollow-base moulds in various calibers (but not that particular mould). As long as you don't go for maximum loads, they are ALL very accurate. They are much harder and slower to cast than flat-base moulds, however. Anymore, I only use them when I have actual accuracy problems due to mismatched dimensions and it is too costly to have a gunsmith fix them). If I don't, I use flat base.
