What bullets are being used for deer? I would like to see pictures of any recovered if possible.

I've been shooting 370-385 gr in my Ranger but I know (I think) most are using bullets in the 250 range hunting. I like Roachcreek, sort of prefer the heavies but now I'm ready to hunt.

The bullet I've been using is cast from an alloy approaching lyman #2 and is a bore rider. I know...everybody says shoot a soft alloy but this rifle just loves this bullet cast hard. It shoots great in my gun but if I cast it with a softer alloy like 20:1 the nose is just too loose in the bore. As is, it's too hard for the 0.260" meplat it has and would probably just punch a small hole through a deer.

So..I have collected all kinds of 45 molds over the years and was wondering what bullets you hunters are having the most luck with!

Lyman 429421 works for everything else, It may work in your air rifle as well.

Mihec mould #434-265 is the H&G #503 in a brass HP mould with interchangeable HP pins for different sized holes.

These run from about 240 gr to 265 gr for a solid. Very versatile in a .44 cal rifle. I'm pretty sure there is a similar mould for .45's as well.

Yep...the .45 cal Keith type is Lyman's 452424, or maybe 454424...depending on the age. Slightly lighter in 452423 flavour. I have a single cav 454190 that drops right between .457 and .458 on low Tin and lead. smaller meplat, and only 260 gr.
cheers,

The softpoint option always exists. Soft lead in the nose, harder metal in the shank.

They were being discussed here just yesterday.

I have actually have done in the past and have considered it lately. I have a set of LBT .30 moulds that have a tip cavity for just that and works great. I have also poured the tip with pure lead and then poured the body with a harder alloy while still in a molten state.

I sure missed the discussion here though...where at?
