I have owned at least 10 Camelbak hydration systems in the last 10 years. Some were issued, and some were bought with my own funds. I have used them in the most challenging of places/situations, just hiking, just for PT, and fishing. Every single one of them developed a leak around the seal, or leaked from the drinking tip. In below freezing environments the water in the hose freezes. I do not like camelback hydration systems as they have exhibited a 100% failure rate for me through many camel back generations/iterations.

They swish around on your back, and you sound like a half full 55 gallon drum rolling down a bumpy hill when they are not 100% full.

Nalgene bottles are tough as nails, dont freeze eazily in their insulated carries, and the cup allows you to boil water for drinking as well as eating delicions chicken flavored Ramen noodles. Even the standard issue canteen with canteen cup is better than camelback hydrations systems, to me.

You can drink out of a Camelback while riding your motorcycle.

The thing I most disliked about camelbacks was that once you get low on water, there is no warning they are empty. One drink, things work as they are designed, the next you don't get anything. I found that out on a field exercise in Puerto Rico.

Do Camelbacks have a large clean out hole/port?
Other wise, how does one sanitize it?

Thanks.

The fill hole is large where you clean it. You can buy brushes just for that purpose.

The "bottle canteen" is a mdl 1910, like the 1911 Colt .45 ACP, there is little to be improved !!!!!!

Someone brought some gear home! Small trick: After your initial cleaning when you put it away store it with a small amount of Listerine inside. It will keep it fresh and will keep all the nasty stuff from forming.
