Picking a few brains here...

I have the Lyman 311414 and a similar Cramer design - both pretty much obsolete (spitzer) designs.

Wondering what FN has worked the best for 300 Savage shooters... in either Model 99's or other rifles (ie: Savage Super Sporter or REM 760)?

It's the short neck that gives me pause. (The neck on the 300 Sav is about as short as the neck on a 7.62x39 case...)

If you keep velocity around 1800 the RCBS 165 Sil works well.

I dont use cast in my 760 only because with 180gr gamemasters im shooting .5" or better at 100 yards.

The 300 is very similar to the 308. Assuming, and I don't know for sure, the rotary mag of an old 300 99 will handle the OAL of the RCBS 30-180FN, thats the one I'd use. IMO and IME it's about perfect as far as a mid weight cast hunting boolit goes. Mine drop about 190 in my alloy and it's no problem getting them into the 18-1900 fps range which duplicates the excellent 303 Savage. Up it a bit more to 2K-2100 and you've got the 30-30, a couple hunnert more, if the accuracy holds and you're pushing the factory 300 area for that weight.

That's my opinion and worth just whatcha paid for it.
