Turned 71 last Sunday, shot a 3x3 Whitetail Tuesday, got to hunt with 2 of my 12 Grandkids.
Life is good! The deer may have been mentally challenged though. It was 15 miles from what I think of as Whitetail country, in the middle of my son-in-laws corn field. When the combine went past him he came out, I crawled off of the tractor and leaned over the front end weights and he ran right at me. At 75 yards I couldn't take it any more and pulled the trigger. On the down side, I don't cast for the old '06 and used a j-bullet.

Hhmmm . . . Sounds like your trying to tell us young whipper snappers that there is hope? My pension fund will be happy to hear of that age range because I told them I was gonna screw'em and live forever.

Nicely done Rex ! If the good Lord lets me stay here long enough to be in my seventies I hope that I will still be able to hunt. I am sure the fact you got to hunt with your grandchildren makes it that much better. Post a picture if you get time. FB

Rex, Congratulations I'll bet even though the whitetail was a bit challenged it will taste good this winter. As far as the age I think it's all in staying active and busy. At least I keep telling myself that. At 51 every once and a while I stop to ponder the big picture over. A buddy and I keep refining our fishing methods to be sure we can keep going into a particular remote location for a long time to come. I just hope I can still be active and shooting at 71.

dads 84 and still hunts almost every day of deer season. Anymore he has to sit and needs a 4 wheeler to get in the woods and needs help with his deer when he gets one but he still gets out there.

Great story, Rex! I have been wanting to take my oldest granddaughter deer hunting with me, and she's said she like to go, but Mommy (my daughter) has already told her she can't go. Now that her dad has gone hunting with me, maybe that will change, especially when my SIL was able to take a beautiful 3-1/2 yr old 9pt. last Monday.

Dad will be 91 in Jan. He stopped hunting deer in 2005 mostly due to not tolerating the cold but we still hunt a lot of p-dogs. He is still an awesome shot. On a calm day he is good for about 350 yards with the .223 rifle and about 250 with the .223 Remington XP-R 100 pistol. If he can hear it he still takes coaching better than my High Master High Power buddies.

I am ONLY 62. My plan is to make 105 and then get shot by a jealous husband, and deer hunt until that point.

So the "jealous husband" would be a big Muley buck???
