Hello all, just joined and this is my first post. I am currently casting a batch of Lee TL309-230-5R and will be coating with Hi-tek system. I have shells all ready and now searching for a good load for this. I am going to a gun show this weekend with the intent on buying powder. I have seen on this site that LIL gun and H110 is a choice for some of these loads but have been reading different reviews? I have built a AR to shoot the 300 AAC with a 16" barrel, Carbine. Could use some info. I will be also purchasing some 150 Gr jacketed bullets with the intent of hopefully using same powder as the 230 gr that I have cast. Thanks

aa-1680 would be my first choice..

Just looking at it, it reminds me of the .30 Carbine with heavier boolits. H110 is the powder designed
for .30 Carbine, so should work well. I have not loaded this, this is just a best guess.

Thanks for your reply, is there a site that would have some load data? Seems like all my reloading manuals don't show any for this caliber in casting bullets.

Thanks

Another vote here for AA1680. Big issue is where your gas port is located. If standard location, you will need a slower burner to have sufficient port pressure. Reports vary, but I think my experience is shared by a lot of folks. With a 240 and decent load (sorry, I don't have it with me now) of AA1680, (Standard port position, 16" bbl) I just barely have ehough to get the empties out of the gun. I haven't found a load with a lighter bullet that will eject reliably.

I've seen lots of good reports for A1680, for the 230G. They seem to run in or around 11ish grains for sub-sonic. I have never used it, no reason other than I had others.

I like H110/296 for lighter jacketed.

I prefer Lit'Gun for 147 grain GI pulls / 150 grain hunting, 15 grains for each. Lit'Gun also is listed at around 9 grains for the 230G lead.
I have the belief that Lit'Gun runs better with heavyer bullets and not at the fastest velocities.

Watch your seating depths both for feeding and changes in pressures/velocities.

The newer barrels, for the most part, seem to be ported properly, or so I have been seeing.

Take care in your quest.

Enjoy,

OSOK

Oh, look at '300BlkTalk'. Many jacketed subjects covered.

Load with care,

Reloder 7 is my go-to powder. 155gn Lee boolit with GC on top of 17.7gn. For the Lee TL309-230-5R I use 14.2gn of RL7. I added a Hornady GC crimped onto the boat tail as this improved accuracy. My AR's are both carbine length gassed with 16" barrels. I have no intention of adding a can so noise and supersonic boolits are of no concern. My experience with Lil Gun and H110 under cast was not very good. When using Sierra 2120 125gn on top of Lil Gun I got good accuracy but the cost is prohibitive for casual work.

Just want to say thanks to all for this info, "wish I'd have know about this site in the past"

I don't have access to AA1680, it is the prefered powder for this cartridge. I use 15.3gr H110/W296 with the Lee 312-155gr boolit and about 12gr Reloader7 with 230-247 gr boolits. These loads cycle our 2 300BO 16" carbine uppers reliably.

And welcome to the madness.
