Just a quick question; do you find that if a particular rifle shoots well with x powder using jacketed, will results be similar in cast? Am talking about my 35. Using LeverEvolution powder it shoots 200 grain jacketed beautifully ( 1.37" at 200 yards ) Would that be a good place to start with cast? Same weight projectile.

For loads in the 1800-2200 fps range, I'd say yes whatever works well for jacketed should work well with cast. Just make sure you've thoroughly cleaned the bore of any and all copper fouling before going to cast.

With the higher velocity chamberings 2400 fps+, sometimes a powder change is needed and going to a slower powder is the way to go.

I plan on shooting for the same velocity I get now; 1950 fps. I will probably end up hollow pointing my boolits and running 50/50 coww and pure and adding 2% tin for some expansion.

I generally take the loads down a notch for cast–CBs go faster than jax with the same charge.

You are changing a component when you change bullets. So you work the load back up from the start. It will tell you this in every reloading manual.

Just re-work up the load with the cast bullet in your 35 Rem. The principal applies in this case but not in many others because of other variables. Are you planning on 35 Rem's like these?

It depends on what the rifle ends up liking with cast at the velocity/pressure you wish to achieve. Often, if loading cast so the rifle still shoots near jacketed parameters, the same powders will do for both, or close. I say "often" because some rifle chamberings will easily shoot cast to full potential and some will not. The .35 Remington is a teddy bear.

It is a good reference, but not identical.

In my 30-30 I use Varget and 150gr jacketed bullets at 2250fps. I use about the same powder charge when using a 150gr gas checked bullet at the same velocity.

Yes if that is from a RCBS!

If you want to see something that doesn't work, try shooting a .223 cast bullet at 3000 fps and see what happens. In my experience, the larger the caliber; the more lead bullets shoot like jacketed with the same powder charge: like .44 magnum. I still tend to slow it down with cast, no matter what caliber for best accuracy.

It is, the RCBS 35-200-FN.

As soon as I save up a few extra bucks, I plan on getting one, along with a hollow point tool.

I shot some 165 PC cast (GC) in my 308 AR the other day using LeverE. Worked fine. It wasn't a max charge but shot lower POI than the max 4895 loads @ 100 which clock ~ 2400 fps. Look in the lube rifle PC accuracy thread. Someday I'll figure out how to post CB links. No it wasn't a particularly good shooting day. My answer, probably if the alloy and lube are right.

I've this 32 Rem ....... the best load is w/50/50 WC . It runs the same as top velocity jacketed w/a starting load of IMR4350 .

Save yourself a ton of headaches get all the copper out 1st.

There's something very right about that 35 Rem with cast. What rifle is that, Larry?

Harter66, how does the 32 Rem compare with the 30-30? I've long suspected that 4350 would be a good choice in the 30-30. I'd think a full case in either cartridge would be mild and clean burning.
