I made it to the range today and shot my marlin 30-30 with my own cast c309-170TL under a worked up load of IMR 3031. I made it to 26.5 grains and seen no need to any farther, they were so dang accurate i stopped right there. At 25 yds i shot 8 rds- One ragged hole and 2 holes 1/2 inch away that i called ( i squeezed the trigger on a heart beat) Now i just have to figure the balistics at 100 yds and set my Nikon BDC (bullet drop compensation) or hold over. After deer hunting i'll have to play with some 300-400 yd shots( no i'm not that good but its fun) I must thank the gang here for some advice on this powder. * side note* I must be almost right on/ close to the rifling, i'm seated at 1.56 and it still feeds fine and shoots great. Anybody know the general ballistics of this round up to 200 rds. My bullet is 180 grs. ( general idea)
26.5 grs of IMR 3031

180 gr GC @ 14.3 BHN sized at .309 tumble lubed
Out of a Marlin 336 with ballard rifling

How fast do you think its going and how fast can you go with a tl bullet I've only shot them out of a wheel gun.

So far it's accurate and absolutly no leading. I'll Chrono it later. I'm thinking 1-2 more grains will be max. When your this close and everything works,no leading,no pressure signs, accurate, why mess with a good thing.
