caused by burning off the coating of the muffin pan ( ask me how i know lolz ) once that coating is gone it's better'n gravy ;)

I've been making them for years and mine don't look no better than that. They melt down just fine though.
If I preheat the muffin tin I don't get the air bubbles but I usually just heat enough to keep the tinsel fairy away. Had a bad expierence once with a cold tin setting on a frozen concrete floor. When I poured in the lead I guess it condensated below the hot lead. Very exciting!

Making ingots is fun. So far I've nly destroyed one muffin pan. Welcome to the addiction.

One of my old pans was tin. It got a little rusty so I sanded it and coated it with some Johnny ring wax.
It acted as flux and I had to melt the lead to get it out.

Early on, I cast in kitchen ware and got rough, bubbley bottoms like that...not TFE thought. Cannot explain it. The melt in the casting pot perfectly.

Now I use Lee molds for alloy and RCBS cast iron molds for soft lead. They give me perfect ingots!

Don't breathe the fumes.. they are bad news. Ugly or not.. they all melt into gold! :)

Cast iron muffin pans (2 pounders) or welded steel ingot molds (5 pounders) are the best for me !
Avoid the Teflon pans !

The special orange "mold release" allows them to drop easily ! :) :)
