M93 Spanish Mauser [Archive]

I've got an old 7x57mm M93 Spanish Mauser with a dirt-dauber customized barrel. Where could I find a cheap replacement? Reckon a handyman-type fellow like me could replace it?

Prolly Springfield Sporters would be the fastest bet for one. I needed a replacement for a 1895 Chilean short rifle and bought one of their 29" takeoffs and had a buddy with a lathe (didn't have one at the time) shorten it and recut the barrel steps.

These are all used barrels and some they have might even be worse then what you're wanting to replace. I placed the order over the phone and told the lady I would pay extra for a really good one, as I needed a shooter. I would rate the one I got as 'decent'. It was way better then the smoothbore that was on it and will shoot the Lyman 150 gr Loverin just fine to about 1600 fps.

If you want to spend more, and have a brand new one, contact The Montana Rifleman. They will use your old barrel as a pattern and turn a new one to exactly match it. They did that for a 1884 Trapdoor and it just dropped right in.

Check GPC as I got a M93 in the white a few months back on special for about $29.00. The bore was perfect and it was long chambered, but had been cut to 20". New small rings are running 113.95 in 6.5 and 257 Roberts and 7x57.

What's GPC? Numrich? All they have for $20 is 8x57.

Springfield Sporters is where I got the barrel for mine but that was quite a few years ago but last I looked it looked like they still had some. the one I got was dark but the rifleing was fine. I reserected a 93 barreled action no bolt and the barrel was shot so I ordered a barrel and Bolt from Springfield Sporters. Nice folks to do business with as far as my limited expirience with them. Check My Keepers and Loosers post I just posted a pic of my 3 keepers with the 93 pictured.

GPC is what use to be Numerich. They have flyers that come out every so often and that is where I got the 7MM bbl. I will check and see if I can locate another one.
