Is there a mold that is available today that can cast a full wadcutter for the 45 Colt?...

Anybody give opinions on such a critter?...

Is that a full wadcutter? I can't seem to find it listed with Lee--maybe discontinued?...

I like the looks of some of the Accurate, but I really hate to spend the money if they are not really good with accuracy. They don't seem too popular...

I have fwc's for my 38/357 and they are really accurate...

Guess I'll just keep looking and maybe decide to spend the money on a good mold...

Money is not the issue here...

I just hate to purchase a mold that may be worthless if the 45 Colt is not known to be a good fwc shooter...

As I mentioned, I really have not read a lot about them being used...

i like the saeco mould got mine from graff and sons.not the cheapest mould around and took about 2 months to get with the current buying frenzy,but cast beautafully and am real happy with mine.wadcutters in large calibers hit really hard and the accuracy is real good.works good out to about 50-75 yards.after that i would want a swc but there isn't a whole lot of stuff that i need to shoot at past about 50 yards with a handgun.

I have an old Lyman 454309 185 gr wad cutter mold and shoot that bullet out of a Red Hawk & my old Black Hawk. The bullet shoots great out of both guns.
Very accurate bullet. It is a toss up as to which boolit I like the best that wad cutter or the 255 gr Keith SWC. I try to keep plenty of both on hand.

Ballisticast #971 is almost the same design it is on page 6 of their boolit design page.

The NOE mold looks nice, but a reply from the manufacturer of it indicates I would need handles for it. The ones he offers would probably be the best but he also indicated that the Lee 6- cavity handles would fit. I really don’t need any more handles as it is highly unlikely that I will need them for future molds. I must admit for the sake of convenience, I have stayed with RCBS, Lyman of which I have handles and Lee that include handles…

So, my other option would be if someone on this site might have a full wadcutter mold for the 45 Colt for sale. Maybe could work something out…

Fortunately, this is not a difficult formula:

Get access to some pin gauges in .451", .452", .453", and .454" See which one fits through your cylinder throats, and order your lube sizing die that size.

Order the .45-240W from Accurate spec'd to drop them about .002 over that diameter with your chosen alloy. I suggest this mold because it has the nominal crimp groove, the front driving band that can be used as a crimp groove, and extra lube grooves that can ALSO be used as crimp grooves. All of this will allow you to greatly vary your seating depth to find what your revolver likes. Seeing as one non-tapered cylinder of lead is otherwise going to be pretty much like the next, seating depth and bulk of powder charge (load density) are likely to be the main variables for maximum accuracy - once the bullet is fit correctly, of course.

Based on the experience of my one (.45-230F), and the feedback of others here, the Accurates are simply a joy to cast with. You know all that break in and tapping of the handles you need to do with some molds to get the slugs to drop? Not an issue here - not even when brand new. What you're paying for with Tom's molds is really fast delivery, good bullets, and lack of frustration.
