Chris-

I don't get a commission from anybody for suggesting that you might wanna look at getting a checkmaker. I have FreeChex III's for several calibers and I love the units. I never will sweat not having checks again.

Others are happy users of Pat Marlin's products.

With either, you can convert readily available aluminum into a supply of checks.

It's not black powder this time, so Cabelas wouldn't charge you hazmat.

80 dollars after shipping for 1000 gas checks is just too much

Hmmm.... about $40.00 shipping, assuming they're about the same price as Midway. Have you checked with any of the other big box reloading places to see what they charge to ship?

Shipping to Canada is the killer.
For instance a five pound shoebox size package I took to the post office -and returned home with- was $37 and change for first class and $57 and change for Priority mail.

Just talking here, but it seems to me that someone crossing the border with several different size check makers in their tool box in the trunk, would have the makings of a decent tiny business.

You can use flat rate mailers to Canada, they are more expensive than the US, but not that bad.

could I shoot a full base bullet at 1500 fps with 24 grains of h110 without significant leading using Lee 429 molds and BHN 33?

We shoot flat base @1400fps with no gas checks. Heck My 45/70 spits them out at 1750fps, and no checks.

For 80 bucks, Id order one of Pat's check makers, and you will never have to buy them again

Buy a bag here, to last you until a check maker comes in the mail

you probably could, fit and lube will be more important than hardness. I shoot a flat base 44mag at 1350 with no leading and good accuracy.

and you could likely get 2-3000 44cal GC's in that one shipping box. so spreads the damage some.
