I don't know how many of you have tried the Lee 312-185 in your .30-06 but I find that it is a good bullet in my 03A3. When I first started loading this bullet I had purchased it for the .303 British which it is supposed to be made for. The first mold I got is a single cavity and I found that the nose portion of the bullet was too small for my .303 and the body measured .313. I didn't do anything with the mold at first and then thought that I would try it in my 03A3 as the nose seamed to fit rather well. I sized a batch at .311 as that was the closest sizing die I had and it started shooting good groups right away.

Recently after casting many bullets with the single cavity and regretting that it was not a double cavity I thought it might be time to try one of the new Lee designed double cavity molds. I ordered one from Titan and have been very happy with what I received.

If you already have a mold in this size try it in your 06'.

I have a RCBS 180 FN that I have shot in my 06 and my 30-30 and it has worked great. With WW and tin it drops at about 192 gr. I shot my last dear (7 years ago) with it in my 30-30. I don't remember the load but, shot across my Chrony it clocked at 1800 fps.

That's the boolit I shot for many years in my Model 70 Winchester. It had a .301" bore and .309" groove, which meant that most .30 caliber boolit noses were too small for it. That 185 grain Lee is a good weight, good shape, and the right size for many '06 rifles and sizes very nicely to .311" even with "weak" alloys such as 50/50 WW/pure (water quenched to bring up the hardness) that tend to cast a little small and won't make .311" in many moulds.

That Lee boolit is usually the first one I try in my various .30-.31 caliber rifles. Mine works well when sized to .311".

I use the Lee 185gn G/C'd to .311 in my Model of 1917 Remington.
I load 25.5gn of 5744 and it will produce 1.5 MOA at 100m if I do my part (as long as I remember to set the sights to 600 yards!)

I have been shooting that boolit in my M/N rifles. The GC shank is oversize on my mold and I have to expand the GCs with a punch before installing them. Shoots pretty good, though. I may lap it a little 'cause the Rusky guns have a .313+ bore.
