Today I got a call from the wife of the property behind the bean field
She said they talked about the Cottonwood trees ( bet she talked and he said YES Dear )

So now I have the OK to cut the Cottonwood trees
I can even make big brush piles on their side of the fence line with the branchs

Also I talked to the sawmill guy
He will cut the trees after it freezes up
He has someone local using cottonwood for decoys
Not sure if it's heads or bodys

And my net for the trees will not be much
But I will get them cut , hauled away and the limbes pushed in piles for free

All is good ....or at least better

John

Sounds like the best possible resolution to your problem that you could hope for.

That's great John. Much better when neighbors cooperate.

FWIW, Cottonwood planks make great truck/trailer decking. Many years ago when our big local lumber mills used horses to skid logs their specifications for flooring in their stables required Cottonwood lumber be used. Their main reason was because Cottonwood does not splinter easily and was safer on the horses. Just some thoughts.

This should be much easier than any of the other options...

Yup, when you want something done right, go straight to the top.

Oh that's good news for you :)

one old time property owner (he must be about 80 yr old) where I cut up storm downed trees for firewood.. He has some 100+ year old cottonwoods that were planted by his grandfather specifically for lumber. He never told me if his grandfather ever cut any down, but he did say about 60 or so years ago, his Dad cut down about half of those trees for lumber to build out buildings on the farm and sell some of that lumber to buy the shingles and nails and such. Those buildings are still standing and look in fine shape.
