I do believe I've found my "Pet" load for 44-40, YIKES!! These things make even me look like I can hit what I'm aiming at. These were fired from a Uberti SAA in 44-40.

5.8gr of TrailBoss pushing 10 Lee 218gr SWC (.429 unsized) from straight COWW's pushes them downrange at an average of 813fps into a nice ragged little hole 30 feet away. I think I'll quit playing around with different loads for this one. Now I need to get some video of how far one of these things will drive a golf ball.

I have a "recent" (Dec. 2012) Uberti Cattleman x 4-3/4" in 44-40, and it DEFINITELY tries to please with SAECO #446 cast of 92/6/2 alloy and sized .429". Several powders produce similar results to yours, though none quite so small-grouped! THAT is good shooting! I'm very happy with this Pasta Colta, indeed.

sometimes you can launch a golf ball as far as a driver will hit one.

You, Sir, are completely done with your load development.

I must say, I think I would plink at some squirrels wit that one, just for kicks! And a deer inside 30 yds prob doesn't have a chance!

My son-in-law has a short video that he shot of me firing Black Powder rounds out of this gun yesterday too but I can't get it from his phone to my YouTube apparently, at least not yet. The breeze was calm enough yesterday that I had to wait for the smoke to clear between shots as I couldn't even see the front sight let alone the target.

This gun came to me by way of warranty replacement. I had originally purchased a Uberti Schofield and after being unable to get a working one after three tries Uberti agreed to my suggestion of sending me two SAA's to replace the one Schofield. I got a nickle one in 45 Colt and this blued one in 44-40. Having never loaded tapered brass before I can tell you that the ability to load these little monsters eluded me for quite some time. I've got it down pretty good now but I've learned that mixed brass of varying lengths may work for 45 ACP, 45 Colt and 38 Special but it sure ain't gonna fly for 44-40!!
