Gentlemen

Finally got yard leave and went to the range with the new 7.5" SBH and the Marlin 1894. Lotsa fun.

The 7.5 gr Unique w/255 gr Keith in 44 special case puts 3 in 1" at 25 yds. Stopped at 3 cause 5 might cause messup. Nice SBH load.

10 gr of Unique in mag case with Keith boolit does about 2" for 6 shots from the Marlin w/a red dot scope. Right snappy in the SBH.

Now for the question(s). Need to be about 950 - 1000 fps w/Unique w/mag case in the SBH, same boolit. Any thoughts on charge?

I have an older NEI 220 gr TC bevel base mold that makes 229 gr boolits and would like to develop a 1000 to 1100 load for the SBH and whatever it does in the Marlin. The boolit will accept a Hornady GC, with a liitle extra work if the Marlin gets over about 1600, which I kinda doubt.

All this is for deer and Mr piggy.

I use 8/unique in mag case for 5 1/2" SBH and Marlin 1894 with Lee TL 240's. No chrono, but guessing around 900 (maybe less) from the pistol. nice easy round to shoot.

I like shooting Unique in the 44Mag. In my younger days I use to punish myself and my guns with a hefty portion of H110 until I finally decided that it was not necessary to shoot Mag loads every time I shoot a 44Mag. My favorite load is 10gr Unique with a 245gr Keith, I've not shot the load over a chronograph but I'm think it is around 1000fps. It knocks down steel targets with authority. Shoot good in every 44 I own.

In my Redhawk 7.5", 10 Unique with Keith 255 SWC clocked 1160 fps. According to Lyman #49, 10 gr will get you about 950 with 210-240 gr CB.

Here is my result with Unique in .45 Colt, I would think the velocity would be higher in the .44 Mag.
.45 Colt 452-255-RF 6 Cavity PB ACWW 251 + Gr. .454 Dia. 45/45/10 Dip Lube FC case Once Fired
Hercules Unique/Lot#440 10.0 Gr. Primer S&B 5,3 Lot#13/44,09 To crimp groove with Med. Roll 1.560"
Chrono.1099 FPS 673.3 Ft. Lbs. 1/16/2013

Edit: Fired from 7.5" Black hawk, start screen 15 feet from muzzle.

What COL do you use for your 44Mag in the Marlin 1894? My SWC in 44 Mag are well over standard length but work in my SBH and Astra (similar to S&W 29). I am afraid they won't feed through the 1894 and I have had enough problems with factory loads feeding in this gun. Last time in jambed it got sent to Marlin and I think they fixed it for Standard length (1.680) bullets but not sure what a 1.710 SWC will do.
